Hi my name is Karen and I just joined this site. I had my surgery 11/24/09, I thought I was ready for this the education I received from my Dr. and support group was amazing, but now that it's here I feel like I need to second guess everything I drink. I have been having some pain after I drink my broth, shakes or Water not immediate but within a minute. I have been taking smaller sips but I noticed it is hard to tell when you've had enough I never have more than 4 ounces of Fluid at a time and I am trying to go a lot slower it seems strange to take a half hour to drink a few ounces and it feels like I really need to train my self. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello and welcome.

I was banded on 11/23 so i feel your pains. did you have a lot of gas? the only thing i can think of is the gas is trapped in your stomach and maybe causing these pains.. did you have an upper GI before you left the hospital? they did that for me to make sure when i drink everything goes down ok. i constantly burp, if not i have the pains.. did you try gas x? the chewables work pretty well. i would call your surgeon if you keep getting pains and doesn't seem related to gas. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the advice. I never thought to try the gas x. I guess I had an upper GI I drank barium and they x-rayed my stomach and everything flowed through good and the band placement was perfect. But my stomach definately feels gassy. Good Luck to you and your journey.

I was just banded yesterday and I am having crazy gas pains... they told me though not to take any gas-x or anything like that because it causes slugde in you stomach?!?! I have just been trying to move around alot but it doesn't seem to be helping much... I get the most gas pains after I drink my Protein shakes... so I don't know if it is the milk or what?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
