Looking for experiences of people with stats like mine

Recommended Posts

I would really like to hear from anyone who is 30-ish with a beginning BMI of 40-ish. I'm 30 and have a bmi of 41. I'm 5'4 and weigh 240, nonsmoker, no kids. I'm trying to gauge what typical results might be for someone like me, so I can make an informed decision and maybe know what to expect. For instance, how much did you lose the very first month (I'm just darned curious about that), versus how much you lost in month 6? Month 12? Is your skin bouncing back? Can you do things like yoga, etc, without causing the band to slip?

Has anyone used Dr. Ortiz in TJ?

Thanks!

Lindsay

Oh, and does anyone know how I can change my birthdate so it says 1979 instead of 1997? I can't seem to find a link for making that correction, so now the site keeps telling me I'm twelve.

correction, clarification.

Hi Linni! Welcome to LapBandTalk.com! It’s always nice to see fresh new faces around here.

I actually do not have close stats to yours but you might find similar folks here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f124/

I checked to see if you could change your birth date in your edit options but it doesn’t appear that you can. You can send a private message to *Susan* our Site Administrator or Alex the Site Owner to ask them if they might be able to help you with that.

If you need anything else, I’m glad to help. Best wishes on your journey!

I think we're pretty similar in stats. I'm at 66 pounds lost and I was banded in late January. I tend to have 2 really good months of weight loss and then I hang out for a month with nothing. I only have 35 pounds left to lose so I'm pretty happy =)

Hi Linni-- Welcome....

I have similar stats to you. I am 32 years old 5'3" and weighed 242 at surgery date... I was banded on August 25 2009. I keep a spreadsheet on everything broken down by each weeks weight loss to monthly weight loss. I am currently a few days past 14 weeks post surgery (3 months and 2 weeks) and I am down 51 lbs.

First month = 21lb loss

2nd month = 11.6lb loss

3rd month= 10lb loss

the rest I have lost this month...

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
