How I survived thanksgiving......

How did everyone survive thanksgiving?

It was a breeze for me considering the 2 weeks of hell I have just had (haven't weighed myself in these 2, but I'm sure due to the stress *fingers crossed* I've lost something.

I almost choked on my turkey (which actually turned out awesome), stayed away from the mashed potatos (which I don't eat to begin with) had 1 scoop of stuffing, and Made the green Beans with low fat/low sodium cream of mushroom.... Made the turkey with sugarfree Apple juice concentrate, a fresh apple, Margarine instead of butter, and fresh herbs..... it was splended... Also managed to find a sugar free pumpkin pie.... 1 plate of food, and I was full!!! and the family didn't realize all the "Good stuff (fats & sugars) was substituted"... I survived thanksgiving despite all the BS that was thrown my way..... Just don't have a lb report for you guys... I will tomorrow.

How about you all??? happy belated btw:wub:

Hey, Sarah, glad to see you!

I got some turkey stuck right away on Thanksgiving :frown: and for the rest of the weekend, everything I ate got stuck. This morning I woke up with reflux, so I called my PA, and she squeezed me in with the surgeon for an unfill. :frown: He wanted to take out .5 cc, but I convinced him that I wasn't vomiting, just very uncomfortable with everything I ate, so he only took .25cc. I hope that does the trick. Ugh!!! This is the second unfill I've had to have because of food getting stuck and causing swelling. This is no fun! And I'm angry that I let it happen. When will I ever learn???! I hope I don't lose a month of progress this time like I did with the last stuck experience. That should have taught me! But, we are quick to forget when we are hungry that we need to eat teeny tiny bites all the time.

I hope your Thanksgiving meal went down better than mine. :)

My husband and I were on a cruise last week and had great food all week. I had a 1/2 dessert every evening. I excersized every day and walked a lot, but drank a lot and gained weight (about 4 pounds). Hopefully it will go away fast too. I only do this once a year and it would have been difficult for me during Thanksgiving anyway, so I'm okay and had a very good time. Gaye

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
