hi everyone I was banded on Oct 2nd 2009. I like everyone else had shoulder pain after surgery and I keep hearing everyone talk about how its from gas.... when I went to my follow up doctors appt. That was the first question he asked me ...if I had shoulder pain. I said Yes and he said it was from the surgery and the muscle is sore somehow all conected blah blah.... was I the only one who was told it was NOT pain in my shoulder from gas????........ sorry I know its after the fact, but its kinda bugging me.

I had a bit of shoulder pain and wondered if it was gas but to be honest, it just didn't feel that way. I asked my doc about it and he said the same thing, that it was probably from the surgery and not gas. I never did get any gas but then I spent little time lying or sitting after my surgery.

I have shoulder pain about twice a week and i am 6 and 1/2 months being banded. It is not the gas from the surgery after a few days that gas is absorbed. My doctor told me that the tubing that runs from the band to your port rubs on your diaphram which causes pain in your shoulder ( i guess there is a nurve that runs from the diaphram to your shoulder) He told me some people have the pain and some don't because it all depends on the persons body and the way the tubing lies in the body not everyone has it rubing the diaphram. He told me that people that have really bad shoulder pain they take all the fill out of the band causing the band to drop a little on the stomach making the tubing not rub on the diaphram anymore and then they try to refill it slowly. My shoulder pain has gotten better since i have had my last fill i don't know if the last fill moved the band alittle and the tubing no longer is rubing the diaphram anymore but i do feel a lot better now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
