Post OP Hernia and slippage

Recommended Posts

I just had a CT for something else and they told me that my lap band had slipped and I had a hiatal hernia. What a bummer!

My doctor is out until Monday but I was just wondering if any of you had to have another surgery to move the band and fix the hernia?

Help! I cannot have my lap band removed or I'll get fat again. I will not get it removed!

Time sensitive. Answer, anyone, ASAP!!!!

I think it is possible that they may be able to correct the slip by completely unfilling you for a while. It depends on jow and how badly the band has slipped. If that doesn't work they can remove the band and place a new one. Some Dr's do this at the same time others will wait inbetween. Again it probably depends on what they find when they do further tests or open you up.

Hopefully it won't be as bad as you think. We always tend to imagine the worst case scenario!

I just had this done -same thing was found on me. Band slipped, and they found a hiatal hernia. The doc set up surgery, gave me an updated band, fixed the hernia and I was all set. The doc acted like this was very common, and he said he sewed it up in a few minutes. Don't let this get you down. It got me panicky, too, cause I didn't expect it - but I am now 3 weeks post op and I know things are going to go back to the way they were. I'm very happy to know things are fixed now, and I can get back to the way I was.

I had lost 120 pounds, and I can't wait to get fully healed and get on with life again.

You will, too -you'll get the band fixed, or replaced, your hernia fixed up, and you'll be fine. No worries about getting fat again!

briatian~did you feel anything??? Pain??? I had a hernia at the time of my band placement and my surgern repaired it...

I am so sorry for you. I hope things go well. Like the pp said, sometimes the band will be okay with an unfill and time to heal...not sure about the hernia though. It may need to be repaired...Heck, while they are in there....You may as well get a new band. I don't know if they will still use the same band....How long ago did you have your band placed? How long did it take for you to lose the 100+ lbs????? Thats great!!! Keep us posted!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
