New from Alaska

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

My name is Monica and I was banded on 11/10/09, (finally) at Alaska Regional Hospital. I seem to be doing great so far. I don't have my first fill until 1/6/10. I am a 49 year old happily married mother of five ages 23, 21, 19, 9 and 7. I am 5'9" and my highest weight was 320lbs, (uggg). I weighed 308 just before my surgery and the last time I weighed I was down to 288, so I guess I lost a quick 20! For now things seem to be stalled but I guess that is to be expected as my body adjusts. I HATE to exercise, but since I got home from Anchorage on the 18th I have walked at least 20-30 minutes on the treadmill everyday...except Sunday. I look forward to sharing weight loss journeys!

Monica

Hi Monica, it sounds like you are doing great! Stalls are normal....just keep exercising and following the rules and you'll get there. Keep on kicking ass, woman, lol!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
