Typical weight loss

Recommended Posts

I am new to this forum, but wanted to join one that was just for banded patients. What is the typical weight loss and how fast is everyone else losing. I lost 13 preop and have lost 9 since surgery. I had my surgery on November 11, 2009.

I was banded on 11/13/09. I lost 10 pre-op and 12 post-op so far. I've noticed that since I started on the mushie stage I've come to a stop. I figure my body is readjusting from liguids.

I was banded on 11/3 and lost 14 pounds preop even though I wasn't required to do a special diet. Since surgery I've only lost 2 pounds *but* I've lost several inches and have lowered my blood sugar from the mid 300's down to roughly 150 (give or take a bit depending on the time of day)...both of which are far more important to me than the number on my scale.

I typically lose 1-3 pounds per week.

I lost 11 pounds on my pre-op diet and I've lost 70 pounds since being banded in mid April of this year.

I will tell you that the first 50 pounds came off really quickly but the last 20 have taken more time.

Hey there! I think it varies so much with age-sex-and beginning weight and frame size.

I look at other people that was banded around the same time as me and I get a little discouraged. I feel like I ma not losing like I should.

I started at 239.8 (goal weight 150) and on Sunday weighed in at 222.0 so about 18 pounds. I guess if you average it out it is not bad..about 3 punds a week but it is way slow the past few weeks.

I got my first fill last Thursday 4 cc's in a 10 cc band and I really don't feel that different. I have another appt. on 12-10 so maybe I will get a little more!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
