Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less

My BMI was 34 also. I am down 26 lbs and am very happy with it. I am very glad I got banded. I think it is a very good idea for lower BMI patients. I went to Mexico to Dr. Kuri and I got a small 4cc band. I am currently filled to 2cc and I have good restriction. I named my band Geraldo and he does not like some foods. Only a few so far, but I am greatful for his guidance. You have made a good decision, go for it!!!

Hey girl, just thought I would let you know that I too had a lower BMI. When I was banded in April I weighed in the 188lb range with a BMI of 34.9. My doc told me I was the perfect candidate because I was healthy and younger than most of his patient (got to love him!). Today I am at about 148 ish and a BMI 0f 27.5. My goal weight is 140. I lost steady for the first 4 or so months, but it has slooowwed waaaay down! But I dont care because I feel so much better! This has been the best thing I could have done for myself. Like others my only regret is that I didnt do it long before now! Try not to get to caught up in the BMI thing, yes its a good guidline but, in my opinion it is way over rated. The reason I say this is because my DH is 5'10" and weighs 190, but you take a prof. football player that is the same height and weight and I can guarantee you that my DH is not in the same shape as that football player is. Dont get me wrong, DH isnt in bad shape But he doesnt work out the way the football player does. My meaning is just go by how you are feeling and how your clothes are fitting.

Good luck!

Deanna

ps: Dont forget to measure before surgery and once a month thereafter!!

I newbie! How are you feeling? Keep in touch. Our bands were the same day so it will be fun to check each others progress. I hope to see another 20 pounds or so by the end of Feburary but I might be dreaming! :-)

Are there any other banders out there with a starting BMI of 35 or less? I'm getting my band in 1 week and I would love to hear about your experence with the band and how the weightloss is going. Thanks for any response!

I started around a BMI of 36. My doctor said I was the smallest person he has put one in. I'm days short of my 1 year anniversary and I have lost 78 pounds, am off of BP meds, no more sleep apnea and it was definitely the best thing I did in this past year.

Thank you for posting! I'm so glad that you feel it was worth it! So many people think I'm crazy but I know that I'm doing for the lifetime change and not just the quick fix diet! Congrats BillOh on your weight loss and your fantastic year!

I'm 6 days post op! I'm finally banded! I feel great and am trying to figure out portion size with the mushies. I'm hungry but don't want to push it so I'm eating very little food. I know I should try to eat until I feel full but I'm affraid I won't know when that is.

I go to the Dr. Friday so I'm looking forward to some answers from him.

I started with a BMI of 30/31... Banded Oct 3rd 2009

People thought I was crazy too!

Obesity runs in my family & I was tired of yoyo dieting.

Who cares what others think, only you really know if you should do this.

I lost 30 pounds in 2 months! I'm 10 pounds from my goal.

I didn't feel any restriction after my 1st fill but I feel much better now.

I have a 5cc band with 4cc. I will go back for half a cc Jan 8th just to hit my sweet spot!

By the way: I am a self-pay who went to TJ Mexico Dr Corvala

good luck!!!

Wow! 30 pounds in two months. I hope I can do that well! Congrats! I appriciate the support from this thread. I'm sooooo glad I'm not the only one doing it with a lower BMI. It feels weird to say Lower BMI when I obviously felt I was pretty fat to do this! :)

And you know I think its different loosing weight when you start with a bmi lower than 35. I find the lower I get the slower it goes, I'd love to dump 30 in 2 months ... how did you do that red bone? was it all after the band?

I was a "lower BMI" patient, though I started at a BMI of 37. I am 5'6 and was 230. . and I am now just over 7 pounds from goal! I blogged throughout the whole experience (link below -- feel free to check it out) -- it may give you a good idea of what to expect.

Definitely take a bunch of "before" photos and don't forget to take your measurements!! You will want that stuff as you progress!

Best wishes,

Catherine

Hi all: My name is Chris and I am thinking of getting the band surgery. I have alot of questions that were answered on this website. I'm glad to see many of you with a lower BMI have chosen to do it. I have a BMI of 36 weighing about 220 presently. I have hi blood pressure and would like to cut down on some meds. I have lost and gained the same 20 lbs for the past 10 years. I'm disgusted with myself and cannot get past it. Would you do it again if given the chance. Is it worth the pain and suffering involved. I am 62 years old and would like to finally get down to a size 12 or even 14 again. It would make me feel so much better. I am ashamed of myself at times and tired of trying to hide my weight. It is so frustrating. Thanks for your honest replies. cat lady:confused:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
