Back to work - first night back - had to go home :(

Recommended Posts

So.... after taking 10 days off of work I finally went back tonight. I work night shift doing 12 hour shifts. I was ok when I got there. I was confident I would make it cause I even went to the gym yesterday and walked for a half hour on the treadmill. I work as a unit secretary in labor and delivery at the hospital. So I sit a lot. I thought that would be easy. Boy was I wrong.:eek:s Just sitting upright in a chair like that squeezes my incision since I got the SILS(single incision lapband surgery) and my incision is 2 inches in the bellybutton. I guess all those rolls of fat sitting upright causes it to hurt. :woot::cursing:

So I took some Tylenol and thought I'd be ok. I wasn't.I even tried working standing up but the damage was done.:crying::crying::crying::thumbup:I worked from 7PM - 2:30AM -- I had to go home I was in so much pain and I took some percocet.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how I can comfotable in that position? I work tonight so I need help getting more comfortable fast. :(

I am sorry to hear that 10 days after surgery you are still in pain. Was anything rubbing against your incision or pressing on it when you were sitting?

I was fortunate and had no pain. I went back to work the day after my surgery. I brought a small pillow and put behind me so I wasn't sitting completely upright but still very comfortable. It kept my bra from rubbing the top of my largest incision. I also had my feet on a small box under my desk which took the pressure off my back.

I hope it gets better for you soon!

Hi:

I'm not sure if it will help post lapband, but when I was postop from gallbladder removal surgery I put on a spanx-type undergarment. It kept everything in place so it couldn't jiggle at all which helped me alot. If you do try this, make sure it goes well above your incision area and make sure it won't be rolling down.

Best wishes to you to feel better soon.

Sue

Can you use a heat pack at your desk? You know the kind that you squeeze and get heat for several minutes. It will help the pain. Also try using a pillow to help you sit upright.

I have no suggestions since I'm in pain also and it's been since the 13th. I am amazed that some people didn't have pain and were able to go back to work so fast. I go to my doctor tomorrow and I'm telling him I can't go back to work yet. I'm a CNA at a hospital on nights and I know I won't make it though a night yet.

I hope you get comfortable ... is there anyway of taking more time out?

I agree with Sue. I had surgery on 11/6 and I'm still wearing a light girdle (). It keeps my pants from rubbing on the port scar and helps keep the jiggling to a minimum.

I also had SIL and my incision is about an inch above my belly button. I go to work next Monday and am a bit worried myself about the pain. I have a desk job as well and I hope some of the suggestions will help.

I really don't know anything about the single incision part of the surgery but I recommend keeping an ice pack on your belly button in the hours before work. Try 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off until you have to start work and see if perhaps it helps the swelling in that area go down. I would also stay on the tylenol every 4 hours to keep the pain cycle interrupted. Don't let the tylenol lapse.

Hope you feel better.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
