Okay broke down and had Subway....

Recommended Posts

So on Friday night, I did go to the movie and didn't have the popcorn! I did however have a Subway 6" Turkey/Cheese sub on wheat!

The thing is, I am worried that it was too much! I mean, it filled me up, but I don't want to stretch my pouch. I have looked all over the internet to see how much the sandwich physically weighs, but of course I've had no luck .

When I went home to read over my post-op nutritional info for the millionth time, it said do not eat over 6 ounces of food at once. The new stomach is like an egg, blah blah blah and I shouldn't exceed 6 ounces. That was the first time I ever saw that, since all the dieticians were talking about living on "a cup of food". Now I'm worried that I might have stretched my pouch. The sandwich went down fine, no vomiting or pbing, so I'm hoping that is a good sign that I'm not stretched.

Believe me, I'm not looking to make this a habit, but I've been so starved for the past week that I just needed some "real" food. I am almost 5 weeks out and it seems like it's getting harder for me. I'm thinking it's because I've yet to get a fill, so I'm still holding out hope.....

Any thoughts on the possibility of stretching my pouch with the sandwich?

Even if you did overeat volume-wise, which is debatable, one event will not stretch your pouch. Relax.

I would not have been able to eat the bread, but since you obviously can, I would have ditched half the bread to lose some of the carbs.

I agree with Cathy. A one time six inch sub, especially since you have any trouble whatsoever getting it down, is very unlikely to have caused your pouch to stretch. You also said you're not planning on making a habit of it, so I'm sure your little pouch is a-okay.

I was banded on the 15th of OCT, and in the last few days have eaten much more than I have been able to since surgery as well. This also has me concerned about stretching my pouch. I'm glad to hear that an isolated incident or two won't casue irreversible damage. I see the dr on Dec 2nd and hopefully will get my first fill and be able to feel some restriction. Right now I have ZERO restriction and could eat whatever I want in the amount I want. My will power is helping me hold it together, but it gets tougher every day. Let's all help each other thru this bandster hell!!!!!! Small bits, small amounts. LOTS of Water and PRAYER!!!!!!!!!!!

20zmom, you wrote exactly what I feel is happening to me. I was banded on 10/19/09 and won't get my first fill until 12/7/09. I really thought I had this all under control until about a week or so ago. I'm constantly hungry and the 8 oz of food is not keeping me full. In fact, 8 oz has crept to 12 oz, etc. I'm trying to make wise choices when I do eat but the amount of food has been increasing. I've also found that I can eat anything bread, steak, Pasta. I haven't gained weight yet but if I don't get that fill soon, my fear is that's the next thing to happen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
