My name is Melissa and I am getting my band on the 6th Jan 2010, not to long to go. I am also on a 3 week pre opt diet just at the time of Christmas, not going to be easy. Before I start the pre op diet I am going to have a farewell party to say goodbye to the old me and then the new me begins.

What does everyone else think? Anyone do the same thing?

I sorta had a celebration to say goodbye to the old me. I made of a list of all the things I couldn't do b/c of the weight, a list of my meds I plan on losing, and took lots of before pictures. I didn't measure inches but wished I had since sometimes the pounds don't show but the inches do.

Good luck. Be careful over the holidays. No sense in gaining just because you're having surgery. That's more weight to lose in the long run. Oh, clean out all the junk food in your house the day before you have surgery so it won't be there to tempt you when you get home.

Good Luck to you! I so remember being where you are. Hard to believe it was almost 4 months ago!

In my case I just wanted to get started and forget about the old me and the fact that the old me ever existed. I totally set my focus ahead and didn't Celebrate the fact that I had to take such a drastic measure to get healthy again. But now, I do look back occasionally I must admit just to remind myself that I am never going to be there again. Good Luck!

I'm so excited for you!!:(

I know the feeling you are experiencing. It feels like a right of passage or something almost. Since there is a banding "date" there is a countdown and you ponder what will become later. You will be very happy. It can be frustrating at times but SO WORTH IT. The group here is SO helpful, that is for sure.

Looking back I am so happy I got the band and that I am on the road to the new me!! I feel I have said goodbye to the old me, for sure.

One thing I did and recommend is going through ALL your clothes and putting them in size categories. That way you know what group to turn to when the time is right and won't miss out on wearing something you may have wanted to but suddently it is too big! I had that happen last week.. I chuckled!!

I got rid of the 22w me and now need to get rid of the 20w me. I love it!!

Enjoy the holidays!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
