so I know that you can have like a glass of wine a day, basically just keeping it down to a minimum, but, just wondering how soon do you think it's safe to have a glass of wine (for example). I got banded on the 13th. I should call my doc but, just thought I should ask you guys!

I waited a month and have no problem with anything non carbonated...but my Dr didn't say no alcohol... It's just a matter of useless calories.

I'm allowed alcohol but alcohol is too high in calories sadly.

Just think of it as a slider food. It wont do you any harm but will add calories, so should be kept to a minimum. I am 3 months now from geting my band and have not had a single drink. I am so looking forward to a few beers with my mates over the christmas holiday season.

I had a drink 1 month after I was banded. (Feb. 09)

My Doc said it was ok - other than the calories - I try to walk a little extra the day I am planning to have a drink . :-)

My dr. said I could have it a few days after surgery but that I need to watch the empty calories. We are all doing this to loose weight so I'm not going to go overboard, but I do plan to have a glass of wine every week or so.

same as homewith2 - when i went for my one week post op they said I could have alchohol. Just be careful as you will be on liquids and lo cals so it will hit you.

my doc told me no alcohol for a year as well..i know of SOOOOOOO many people who do go ahead and drink...they told us it was mostly because when you drink you lose your inhabitions and/or sense of what's ok w/FOOD, and you can eat too fast/too much and hurt your band...i would like a glass of white wine but i'll be strong and wait...but only till may (10 months post op)... going on a cruise!

My doctor told me use moderation...enjoy it as this is a livestyle change not a diet.

Now beer is another story - when I said a week that includes no bubbles.

You can def eat more if you drink. It relaxes you thus makes you less tight and less prone to the esophagal spasms that can cause those PB (that I at least get). Of course if you are bombed yes you would prob want to eat more - frankly for me I think it is an effect on my blood sugar that alchohol has which makes me want to eat.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
