hi my name is rhian and i am from sunny scotland!

i have made the major decision to get banded in january - i just have to get my date confirmed!

my mum isn't being very supportive about the whole thing - in her eyes i should just lose the weight through diet and exercise alone...as if i havent tried that since before i can remember!

she is obese herself so she should really know the struggle it is!

i am 20years old and weigh about 240lbs.

i want to be able to go into shops and pick the clothes i want to wear...not the ones i have to pick because there is nothing else in my size!

well i hope to get to know you all a bit better!

Hiya! Nice to have you here.... I am getting banded in Jan or early feb too! I am 26 and have about 100 more lbs to lose... Your mum just needs to understand this is going to be a "tool" for you to get your goals.. Its def. not the easy way out... Maybe your mother is a bit jealous that you have made the decision to better your lifestyle..

Have you had a talk with her about why she doesn't want you to do it? When I did that with my SO, I discovered that he was more worried about the possibility I would die during surgery than anything else. He also thought (and thinks) that I can do it all on my own, but we discovered it was more about mortality.

See if there's another reason she's upset and then try to address those issues. If it really is just because she thinks diet and exercise are the only "real" ways to go, then you can ask her why she's overweight...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
