Weight Gain During Week 4

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery October 28. Since my surgery date I had lost 19 pounds. Over the weekend, I increased my calorie intake (from under 600 cal./day) to between 700-900. I haven't had a fill yet but since yesterday I've gained 1 pound. I'm devastated. I don't understand how this could have happened! Anyone with an comments or thoughts please?

i lost and gained the same 3 pounds for 3 weeks then the scale finally moved and I lost 5#. This is when I went on pureed foods. The body needs to readjust itself. Try to measure your body weekly b/c a lot of times we lose inches instead of pounds.

Definitely do not sweat it! I am scale obsessed, so I can tell you first hand that this am when I got home from work (I'm a nurse who works nightshift), I weighed 3.2lbs MORE than what i JUST weighed myself! There are a bunch of factors that could influence your weight daily, esp.fluid volume...

great job on being down 19!!!

Please don't obsess with the scales. They are very fickle! You'll go up and then down and it's very aggravating. Just do what is right per doctor's instructions, do your exercies, drink your Water, and stay off the scales except for once a week if you can. Also remember that around the "time of the month", you're going to be heavier. You can do this and I just know that you're going to be successful. Hang in there and congrats on what you have lost already.

don't even stress about that. At my support group, they told us that if you drink a bottle of Water and don't pee - your weight goes up 2 LBS!!! Hide the scale...it will drive you nuts! I just put mine away 2 days ago in the far far far end of the closet.

This is all so true......I weigh 3# more at night than I do first thing in the morning. If you are going to step on the scale everyday(several times a day:wink2:) try not to freak out about the numbers! I didn't loose an ounce for 3 weeks before weight started to come off again. It will happen, just keep doing the right things!

Hang in there!

I look at the scale as my enemy. It is the big deceiver. It tells me I've gained 2 pounds since the day of my surgery and yet my clothes are hanging on me and my morning sugar readings have gone from 345 to 170...even lower in the evenings...in the last 3 weeks since surgery.

Kick it to the curb.

I was banded on October 27th, and I too have gained some weight. It has been between my transition from mushy to solid foods. I have also found myself more hungry than usual. People say it is because the inflamation has gone down and that makes me feel a little hungrier. Soo true. I am hungry every couple of hours. To satisfy myself, I eat even smaller meals more often throughout the day. Or I drink more Water. In the meantime, I am going to start exercising more. Get on the treadmill more. Watch what I am eating even more. But I also have to keep in mind, I have no restriction. Hopefully after my fill on December 17th, I will not feel so hungry all the time!!! GOOD LUCK and try not to fret about it too much!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
