I got a fill and can't drink anything w/out throwing up

Recommended Posts

October 20 I received my first fill of 2cc. Last week I felt that I could eat more and scheduled another fill date with my Dr. on Nov.20. I answered all the answers correctly and he gave me an extra 1.5 cc. I sat in the waiting room and drank my Water and it went down fine. I forgot that he told me liquid diet for two days and i had a cheese stick when I got home. I threw up and threw up and I found it impossible to drink last night. I was hoping for a miracle this morning, but found I was unable to keep down the sips from my Protein Drink. Now Its just sitting there a little hung up. What is happening......... My band wasn't tight last night . Is it tight now because I threw up??

Most likely your stomach swelled in response to the vomitting causing the band to tighten. You need to call for an unfill tonight if you are not keeping Fluid down. You can dehydrate rapidly and get into serious trouble.

Try drinking something warm first. When I get a fill I have problems the first day or so and the warm Fluid helps relax the swelling.

I had the stomach bug and threw up like that and decided to call the dr office. They told me to drink cold stuff which would help reduce the swelling much like a sprain, (good excuse for a Sonic Grape slushee) but to make sure I didn't have slippage I went and had a barium xray done. All was good. It pays to be careful. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I just called my Dr. cell # , and he said to drink warm tea and it should subside. If not then he will open the office tomorrow for me...whew..

How did the warm tea work? Are you still feeling too tight this morning?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
