Medical and Restaurant Cards?

Recommended Posts

I noticed somewhere on the forum that people were talking about having been given special cards identifying them as a stomach surgery patient who could only eat small amounts, the idea being that the restaurant might give them a break on price, charge them the children's rate etc.

Does anyone know anything about this?

My husband also thought that I should be carrying a card saying I had had the surgery in case of medical emergancies, like the ones I carry saying that I have had cataract surgery.

I'm in Canada and the clinic I'm going to has an escellent reputation, as well as, experienced lap band surgeons, but they have only been performing the surgery since September and had never heard of any of this, although they thought it was a good idea and may look into doing it in the future.

In the meantime, my husband thought he could make me one.

If you have one would you be willing to tell me how they are layed out and what info. is included on them.

Long post-Whew! Thanks!!!!

I received my card from my doctor. I think that is the only place you can get them so I would call and have them look into it a little more.

Woops I didn't read your post close enough. It has my name, the name of my doctor and gives a short description of why I would be able to receive a reduced price.

I received a packet from my dr's office from the Lapband company that has all kinds of helpful info and thats where you get it. You fill out your info and send it in and they register you with your infor and put it on a credit card type of card.

I sent in my registration form for my Lapband with the understanding that I would get a card to show resturants but never got an acknowlegement of my band registration. ?? Most resturants I have gone to do not recognize the card and not let not let me order off the childs menu. Maybe it was just the place I went to that didn't. Who knows. I do need to followup with my dr office to find out I guess.

I have the Lapband and received the packet. There is a registration card you must fill out and send in in order to receive the plastic wallet card. It has the number of your band and other important info. My surgeon took care of mine for me. You can go onto the Lapband website I think and get a registration card. I don't personally use mine in restaurants. I order regular food and take home most of it. Either my husband eats on it or I eat it for dinner and lunch the next day. I always order things I really like. Plus I don't eat out much, only occasionally.

I also received a card from my dr, but I have never used it.

I order from the regular menu and take half of it home. Since most kids items are the same, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, Pasta with one meatball, I really don't want to eat that anyway.

I have never had a problem finding something to get when I go out. I now look for smaller items, unlike before when I wanted

Soup, salad, entree and dessert.

Hello everyone!

I just recieved my card in the mail. It comes from the lapband company. Someone did day you should have recieved a packet with a temporary card and some 7-digit number on it....however, i never recieved that. On the lapband site, they list a number if you do not have the number or access to your surgeon. That's what i did.....

All you have to do is call 1-800-lap-band and press option #6. They will ask you a few questions regarding your surgery. You have to know what size/type of band you have. I.e. Lapband ap, your surgeons name, city, date of surgery, your address and a few other ???. They tell you it will take a few days, i think 5-7 or 7-10 days to recieve your card. Mine took 3 days to come. Be sure all the info on the card is correct when it arrives. I had to order mine twice. It had a max fill amount listed that was incorrect. Mine is a 10cc band and it said max 4cc.

Good luck and please order your cards today....

1-800-lap-band option#6

have a great, banded day!!!

Thanks,

I did find the info on the site but so far it seems that you can only access it if you live in the states.

They have a link for Canada but there I can't find anything on the card on the Canadian site.

I sent them an email so maybe I'll here something.

I get what everyone is saying about the restaurants not honouring the card and I'm not worried about that, it's more that my husband is concerned that I have some kind of identification to say I've had the procedure.

If I don't hear back from the Lap Band company, he'll just make a card for me.

What did everyone get in terms of a patient kit?

I got a booklet put out by the company about he band. The rest of the stuff I got was sheets of info from the dietician and of course 42 chocolate packages of Meditrim shakes and 14 Meditrim bars.

So far I'm managing much better than I thought...nine days to go.

Meditrim only makes chocolate shakes so that's why there's no choice in flavour.

I wonder if it's also a not so subtle attempt to put you off chocolate for life! lol

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
