Ahh, what the band makes possible. Yesterday I had occasion to attend a Breakfast meeting held at one of our justly famous New Jersey diners. Since I rise at 6:15 and the meeting didn't start until 9:00, I had Breakfast at home.

Later, surrounded by huge plates of eggs, bacon, pancakes, and hash browns, I was able to pass on breakfast without any hesitation. Not because I was intentionally trying to avoind it, but because I truly did not want it.

Before banding, the fact that I wasn't hungry (which I would have been, anyway) would not have stopped me from ordering and enjoying a second breakfast. Now, both the knowledge that I couldn't eat any more AND the actual fact of not being hungry changed the entire meeting for me. I was engaged in the meeting and not concentrating on what I wasn't eating and everyone else was.

What a revelation. :D

what a great moment Alex, thank you for the glimpse into a future world where food is just another inconsequential element of the day - hope I catch up with you!

It really is, but this time, WE HAVE HELP!! The physical consequences of eating more than my little tummy can hold are a pretty good reminder of the simple principle we are all trying to internalize. The new ease with which I can say "none for me, thanks" is simply wonderful.

Of course, it's not easy all the time and it's much harder in the evening. But dinner makes itself felt in my body for so much longer than it used to that even at night it's getting easier to pass on the munchies.

Have I said it yet?

I LOVE MY BAND!!!

WOAH... that just made me realize since my last fill i have not snacked between meals ONCE!!!! i guess i just didnt realize that food was taking a different shape in my disstorted notion of what eating throughout the day is!!!

i have always had a snack after dinner so i 'wouldnt go to bed hungry' i did have an Atkins candy bar after dinner last night but that was purely a *TREAT*. i CANNOT believe i havent eaten after dinner since this fill- havent even thought about it- much less felt like i was missing something!!! HOLY COW!

I LOVE MY BAND TOO!!!!!!!:D :D

That's awesome, Alexandra!! That's what I hope to do more frequently... turn down food.

My moment happened last night. I munched on a sandwich all afternoon because it was soooo good (and I paid $$$ for it - an issue that I'll have to work on) but I told hubby to have dinner without me becuase I wasn't hungry! It was so cool! I've never skipped a meal!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
