2wk post-op and cleared to eat solids...

Recommended Posts

I was very surprised when my dr. gave me the all clear to eat solids but so happy. I was doing much better and feeling fuller on the mushies but it is nice eating "normal" food. I have noticed that I have more gas and discomfort again...like what I first had surgery.

I asked him to give me a fill but he, of course, said he wanted to wait a couple more weeks. I feel like I'm eating more than I should but still not as much as before. It's so nice to be able to eat 1 slice of pizza and be full!!!!! 2 wks can't come soon enough, though.

Hello,

Nine days post op my doctor said I could add a few mushies. i was totally surprised. I've barely had anything but really mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. It's great. but i jumped on the scale and was two pounds heavier. How could that be?? I'm 13 days post op now and still have gas. Congratulations on your success!

Yeah....I'm waiting to pick up a couple now that I'm eating solids. I haven't lost a pound in like 12 days!

I actually went home on mushies and have started some solids. I eat dark meat chicken, slices of low fat coldcuts (ham, turkey, turkey pepperoni) I think I could tolerate some bread, but don't want to open that door.

My loss has been stagnant too.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
