Feeling the port....

Recommended Posts

To those of you out there that have had there band for awhile, do you ever get use to feeling the port? Especially when I move around in bed. I afraid that I am going to dislodge it.

My port bothers me the most when I am working out on the stability ball and putting pressure on it, other than that situps and stretches don't bother me. I must admit that it was 6-8 wks post op before I could do crunches and situps and stretches. My port is on my right side about 2 inches above and to the right of the belly button right on the midriff.

I fondly refer to my port as my "tumor". I really feel it the most whenever i lay on my stomach on a harder surface. For example: the floor or the beach. lol. whenever I go to the beach I have to shift the sand away from that area so I don't feel it. it doesn't really bother me anymore. At first I was like what the heck but as time goes on it's just a part of you.

I first it was really annoying. But after I stopped think about it I really didn't notice it any more. I was scared at first that I would feel it for ever. It took me about a month before it didn't feel it. Hope that helps

I'm with you Saraboo....my port has been obvious since day one.....not real happy, but what can you do? It's worth it so far. I'm not so young anymore and definitely not a bikini person, so it's worth the alternatives as far as I'm concerned. I started out at a 35 BMI, so I never had those worries that it moved or disappeared or whatever...It's right there and I can see it and feel it quite easily..

ROFL...mine does too but I'm only 3 weeks out from surgery. I'm hoping it goes down in time, but you know what...if it doesn't I'm going to be ok with it.

I mean really...we're worried about a 'bump' on our torso when we had/have fat rolls dripping off it now?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
