Frustrated with 1-2lb weight loss rate?

Recommended Posts

I know that losing 1-2lbs a week, which is what I've been maintaining for the last 4 weeks, is what is considered "safe" weight loss, but I find myself getting frustrated with this rate.

Am I just being impatient, and should just chill out, or after going through this process am I justified in wanting faster weight loss?

Thanks.

Mike.

I feel the same frustration, but at 2 pounds per week you can take off a whopping 104 lbs in a year.

I know how you feel. After taking such a drastic measure for weight loss, I want it all off right now!

I do feel better now that I am at what I think might be a "sweet spot" for awhile. Do you have good restriction?

I know my own weight loss would speed up if I were exercising more. I bought an eleptical, but am so fatigued I have not got into a routine with it yet.

Usually men tend to take off weight faster than women. You may be able to boost your weight loss to 3-4 lbs per week by sticking to strict dieting and increasing exercise, but don't make yourself sick doing it. Remember that 52 weeks x 2lbs = 104 lbs. Be patient and good luck to you :bored:

The amount of weight you lose corresponds with the number of calories you burn minus the calories you consume.

It is simple math.

If you are consuming 14,000 calories a week and only burning 20,000 then you are going to only lose 1 - 2 pounds a week.

To speed up the process you're either going to have to burn more; consume less or both.

I use the bodybugg to tell me how many calories I am burning and chart everything I eat to know what I am consuming.

I am so close to my goal that as Btrieger says, I did the math and I would have to cut back too many calories and increase my activity too much to lose faster than .5 to 1 pound a week. 2 pounds a week sounds wonderful to me. Yes, take a look at the big picture of a year equaling 104 pounds.....and that year is going to pass by!

I'd be thrilled with weight loss that fast to be honest.

yep, you're a guy, many guys lose faster. But its steady, and it REALLY adds up.

I didnt lose more than a pound a week all the way through this, but I've lost 120% of my excess weight and its stayed away. I couldnt give a rats how fast it came off from my perspective now.

I seem to lose in spurts. On average, I'm at 1.4 lbs per week. I have no fill at all. The stomach didn't tolerate it. It's slow and steady. I sometimes wish I could just sluff the rest off and be done. Be patient. That is the hardest part.

Well as people enjoy reminding me everytime I get frustrated with the 1-2 lbs a week. You didn't gain the weight over night and you certainly aren't going to lose it over night. lol. I hate it when they say that!!! Even if it is true.

1-2 # a week is NORMAL!!!. This is still lots better than before when I'd lose 2 and gain 5. I am impatient, too. i try to up my exercise and that helps me focus on something else that actually helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
