I am finally up to solid food , but am having a difficult time with bacon . Also have not had good luck with pork roast.

Small portion , shredded and still I feel like I am being stabbed when I try to eat either of these things.

bread is the biggest NO NO .. OMg -- tried it once - won't be putting that demon food in my mouth again.

For a treat we went outlast night for frozen custard. I had about 4 teaspoons and I was DONE .. I used to eat a whole big bopper sundae by myself ..

I can't do strips of bacon, and any shredded meat is really difficult for me to chew well enough. I can also eat bread if I make sure to chew really really well!

Hang in there. You'll get it all figured out soon :bored: Just be careful!

Don't give up on a food just because it has given you trouble once. try it gaian at a later date and see what happens. Often I can eat a food one day and then the next it may cause a problem. It often depends on how it has been cooked, how dry it is etc.

bread isn't so bad if it's toasted but be careful anyway. Getting anything stuck isn't fun!

I don't eat bacon in strips .... just doesn't break down enough with chewing to go down easily. I do cook it really crisp to crush to go in recipes though.

bread. Wholel grains have a different texture than white bread. White bread turns into a doughy ball when I eat it and gets stuck every single time. But whole grains (pumpernickel is my favorite bread anyway) do better for me. Toasted is even better!

Look at it this way ...... it's good that you can not eat bacon. Hey I love bacon, but people who are trying to take off weight really should not be eating it.

I can not eat potato chips ....... it's good that I can not eat them because they make me F A T!! :bored:

If you want a little bacon flavor, you might want to try the microwave pre-cooked bacon. I can eat regular bacon too, so I really can't judge if it's easier with the band. It is much thinner, and it can be cooked pretty crispy in the microwave, if that helps any.

To chime in on bacon...there are some really excellent choices for turkey bacon available. Way less fat, low in calories, good protein--and while the texture is a bit different than regular bacon, it is still very good and I have an easier time eating/digesting it.

I hope it works for you. I learned about it at Weight Watchers several years ago.

Cruzlady, I was just wondering if you have had a fill yet or if this is just from the restriction from the band alone?

If you love bacon, cook it really crisp and crumble on top of things for some flavour. Bacon and other cured meats are not healthy foods anyway, so you're better off without them. I have no trouble with bread but I dont eat a lot of it, need my stomach space for healthy foods like the lean Protein and vegies.

Take heart, its a bit confronting when you find long time favourite foods that you love that you suddenly cant eat anymore. But over time, you come to not like the thought of eating them, becuase you can anticipate the discomfort. I occasionally crave something like a really good gourmet burger but the craving has no substance becuase I know what I'm missing is the ability to eat it like I used to - the thought of taking it apart, ditching the bun, eating just a litte of it isnt so tempting!

My main problem is fruit. I've never loved fruit, something about the texture of it, I dont like the sensation of eating it. It turned out to be the most difficult food for me to eat - dried, fresh, cooked, pureed, impossible. I like the flavour, but the actual thought of eating fruit makes me shudder now and i will gag when eating it. The only thing I can handle is a crisp, peeled apple or an orange but oranges are so inconvenient! I have to drink organic juice now to get my fruit requirements in.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
