PCP Not Providing a Diet to Follow for 6 Months

Recommended Posts

I set up my appointment to start my six months of required doctor supervised weight lose. I have CIGNA PPO and this is a requirement. What I am confused about is what diet I need to be on. My doctor told me to pick one but is that acceptable by CIGNA or does it have to be an official plan. What I would like to do iincrease my exercise, cut down on my snacking and eat healther. Can someone please shed some light on this. When I ask my surgeon he pointed me to my PCP and I don't want to get through these 6 months, lose 10% and not qualify.

I think if you try to follow a generally established plan. It could be weight watchers, south beach, the zone, etc. submit a summary to your dr and ask if he thinks this is a good idea. I have been advised to do WW by several drs over the years. You probably don't have to pay to go to weekly meetings as long as you follow there program. Or just say, I am going to try to keep my calories to 1500, exercise three times a week...

Or, you could always call Cigna and ask them! That is probably the easiest. Make sure you get a name and id number of whomever you talk to, along with the date, in case you need to verify later.

Good luck! I am starting my pre-op diet in less than three weeks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
