One week post-op/ full feeling

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have a weird question.

If your not supposed to feel restricted or full until after your first fill, why do I feel full with any liquid I drink at all? Even 3 little sips of Water. It will take me at least 6 full hours to drink 20 ounces of water and that is with a very uncomfortable pressure and bubbly mess going on inside.

If your supposed to be able to drink normal amounts of water and not feel restricted, I just don't get it. Liquid runs through even the smallest of space........Please help me to figure out what is going on! I am losing patience quick with this. I have done everything I am supposed to and this isn't going well.

On a positive note......my pain is almost all gone in the incision areas:thumbup:

Do you have sinus problems? Maybe there is some mucus plugging up the inlet? Just a thought? You should call your doctor. liquids should go down easy.

You are not very far out from surgery, you probably still have swelling. Your surgeon may have also filled your band with some liquid during your surgery. I had pretty good restriction for several weeks after my surgery and didn't really experience the whole bandster hell that you will read so much about on LBT. It really varies from person to person. If you feel so tight that you have trouble getting or keeping liquids down you should follow up with your surgeon ASAP. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your support! Talked to the nurse again today and she has me scheduled in the morning to see if any liquid was left in the band during surgery. She said at this point I should be able to drink liquids with no discomfort at all. She was concerned because I can't get a 16 oz Protein Drink down and no other form of nutrition. I have lost 13 lbs since surgery on the 12th. I don't want to lose it this way...

Hopefully, relief will come in the morning

I was banded one week ago today. I was having problems with Protein Drinks and nothing else. My surgeon asked if I was using a blender to mix my Protein Shakes and I was. He said that caused more air to get into the drink and that is what is causing that feeling. I've been shaking them up in one of those drink shakers since and haven't had a problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
