You can do it! Sounds like you are on a 5 day pre-op diet?

I'm on day 9 of a 14 day pre-op liquid diet, and I am surviving. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and calorie-free, Decaf liquids the rest of the time. I won't lie, there have been some times when I have struggled, BUT I am determined to 1. not have a fatty liver 2. wake up from surgery with a band and 3. to do this right.

In the first week, I lost 17.4 lbs! It's so worth it when you see those kind of results.

I'd be happy to help you with how much and what to buy if you tell me your guidelines!

Good luck!

Amy

I just had my LAP-BAND® surgery yesterday. I chose to go on a longer liquid diet, because I was not sure when I was to get the surgery and I wanted to make sure when I got the call that I was on my way and would not have to wait because of the liquid diet. I was on it for 4 weeks.

I bought the whey Protein mix from Wal-mart. Make sure it has 20 grams of protein, and very little fat or carbs. It cost about $14.00 for a large container. I mixed strawberries with mine. I had 2 Protein Shakes a day, and 1 meal consisting of baked turkey or chicken breast. 1/2 apple sliced up and some greens. (spinach is the best).

I lost almost 20 lbs, and I did cheat 1 day. After a while I really did enjoy my little meal. I found that the taste of all the items together was good. I was never hungry. If I did get a little hungry, then I would eat a small amount of beef Jerky (about 1/2 of a piece only). To play it safe, just take the small amount with you, but DO NOT TAKE THE WHOLE PACKAGE. From experience, it is easier if you do not see the package. Always eat very slow! And chew, chew, chew. Hope this will help you. In the end, it is worth it!!!

This is what I did, but you might want to check with your doctor first. I know the diet is to decrease the size of your liver. To keep it out of the way when the doctor does the LAP-BAND® surgery. Hope this helps some.

Did your doctor give you guidelines? It's best to follow those.

For example, mine were the 3 Protein shakes per day. Each shake had to have at least 20 grams of Protein and no more than 3 grams of sugar. That's it.

Since I had to do 13 days of Protein Shakes (clear liquids only the day before surgery), I bought enough for 39 shakes. Knowing I needed more for the 2 weeks after surgery, I've since bought enough for those two weeks as well.

HTH,

Amy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
