Having to stand up to eat

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band sice Aug. 2004. I have had to stand up and eat mushy liquidy foods just to be able to eat. I did go back a few times and he adjusted the Fluid but I still cannot sit down and eat anything. I can at first and about not even minutes after i eat I have to run to the bathroom and vomit. I do know that my port has moved because he had a hard time trying to get the needle in the right spot and you could see it on the xray how it was sort of floating. I live off of Instant Breakfast drink or nestle chocolate milk. Has anyone had this problem?

You should not have to suffer like that. Ask your doc to do a barium swallow under flourscopy to see what's up.

If nothing shows on that x-ray, ask for a endoscopy which is a scope that goes down your throat.

If you are throwing up, your stomach is probably inflamed and you should go back to liquids for a few days and then mushies, etc.. and try to ease back (like when you were first banded). BUT, definitely go to the doctors to help diagnose why you can't eat like a normal person. If this doctor won't help, get a second opinion.

I had issues, and just thought it was "normal". It wasn't until I mentioned to my doc about my heartburn, that he told me to get in the office right away to get some tests done. I was rebanded a couple weeks ago, and I feel FANTASTIC. I wish I did it a couple months ago!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
