You need to speak with your doctor's office. Usually each doctor has their own set diet. I didn't have a liquid pre-op. I just had to cut out the carbs.

The liquid part afterwords only lasted a couple days, but your's may be different. I suggest you get some Instant Breakfast. That stuff saved me. I still drink this pretty much everyday. It tastes good and is cheaper than Slimfast, which I cannot even cack down by force. The nutrition is pretty much the same too. I haven't found a Protein shake or powder that I can stand either. I still have some in the fridge that I can't take back. I am sure others will have much better ideas that way.

I also used my food processor to puree meat and veggies to the desired level. Baby food is another option, but I don't really care for it, except the peaches.

Thanks!!

My surgeon's office gave me a list of foods. I'm just curious to find what others found helpful. I was given a list of Protein mixes.

I guess the post should have read what tools were helpful. I have a blender and food processor. I noticed some use sippie cups.

Whatever helps you prep your food -- blenders are certainly common.

Small spoons and forks can help adjust how you view your portion sizes. Small bowls/plates as well.

A good-size drink container -- 16oz, 32oz or whatever, to help you monitor your Water intake.

A pill grinder might be helpful for medications post-op, if your medications *can* be ground (some pills should not be).

A food diary of some form. Online ones have access to nutritional information for a variety of foods. Use whatever produces results. This isn't just to monitor calories (which is an important skill to develop consciously or subconsciously), but to monitor your reactions to food -- was the meat dry? How much of it did you consume? When? Had you taken any Water earlier that day? Hot tea, or ice water? ... etc. Once you're post-op, you'll have to learn this for yourself, and a diary can help you remember things and perhaps see patterns in why certain foods don't sit well while others do.

Start your exercise now, if you can, to get in the habit. It's an easy habit to fall out of.

Relax  You'll have enough anxiety to make up for it later.

Ah, that's different!

I bought the individual blender, kind of like the Bullet, and never used it. I'll probably sell it in the garage sale in the spring. I got some of those blender bottles, the kind with the stainless steel ball inside to mix up the powder and I use them every day. Corelle makes these small divided luncheon plates and I got some of those and haven't used my regular plates since, except to hold bowls. I think they are 8.5 inches. Some people go with the salad plates, but I like the divided sections. My eyes are still bigger than my stomach, so that helps keep the portion size down. I find that I can eat a lot of some stuff, but be full with other foods much more quickly. I also don't get a full signal until well after I am done eating.

I have a mini notepad and use a page a day to list everything I eat. That is really helpful. After a while, you can just look at your food and know how many calories. That was a great idea.

Find a Protein bar you like and keep one with you at all times. I get places and get off schedule and I have that bar handy to eat. I can't eat extra to make up that Protein, so I have to eat when I am supposed to.

I still have my Water bottle from the hospital. It's great. I also buy bottled Water, as it's really cheap here. I have some everywhere. Getting enough water in a day is a challenge for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
