Any book recommendations?

Recommended Posts

I just spent a good amount of time at Barns & Nobel... picked my self up a calorie book for restaurants, $6 and totally worth it....

However, I was really looking for a book that I've heard mentioned on here before, but I couldn't think of the name/author at the time. Living with Lap Band? Or something to that effect. Guesses?

Anyone have any good lap-band/WLS book recommendations?

Also couldn't really find a food journal I cared for, anyone find one they love?

Thanks, Sum

well, it's not a book, but i have found a really good website that can help you track calories and break down the kinds of calories you are eating. On Livestrong.com, you can search for pretty much anything from the nutrition information in specific restaurant foods to the calories in produce. The daily journal can track both your calories and your exercise. It's not lap-band specific, but it also has some articles on it about diet and exercise that I find really helpful.

Eating well after weight loss surgery!

By Pat Levine

I have that one and the high Protein cookbook.

My most interesting ones have been the "biggest loser" books from the show

Simple Swaps

Cookbook

Fitness

Calorie Counter

Oh and the YOU on a diet is great reference in explaining how the body operates. simple explainations, humor, and illustrations.

“Lap-Band Companion” By Mark J. Watson, MD

Goes from pre-op to post op

Also “Weightloss Surgery for Dummies”- It is pretty good

My "Bible" is The LAP-BAND Solution: A Partnership for Weight Loss by Paul O'Brien.

He is from Melbourne and they have vast experience with the Lap Band there. Every question I have so far, I have found an answer in the book.

It is also very readable. I come back to it over and over again.

Hello Starting-overin-AZ, I was also a patient with Dr. Fang. I know both he and Dr Juarez share the same practice. I was banded on Aug. 12, 2009. I have been trying to meet others here in AZ, so we can all talk with each other. It would be nice to have a group of Arizonans that could meet maybe once a month. If you know of any type of group, please let me know. Please email me at lingra@cox.net. Again, it's so nice to here from others in sunny AZ.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
