Hello! I'm so excited to have found this website! I got banded June 2009. I've had ups and downs in terms of weight. More down than up. I started at 334 and was put on a pre-op diet! Lost 10 pounds prior to surgery. Weighed in at 324 on the day of my surgery. Anyway I just weighed in this morning at 283. I'm on my way! Woohoo!:w00t:

Hi, I'm also new to this site. I registered a few days ago and have really enjoyed all the information available to us new lapbanders. I was banded Oct 23 and have had smooth sailing since day one.

When do most people get their first fill. How do you know when it's time? I have gotten past the "uncomfortable" feeling when eating and have never really felt full, just a little uncomfortable. Is this normal or do you feel full (like Thanksgiving full)?

This is a really good question. Full takes on a different meaning with the band. The nerves that are located in our

stomach that tell our brain when we are full are located at the top of our stomach. This is why we get full faster and stay full longer with the

band. And that is why before the band we would fill totally stuffed by the time our brains

told us to stop. You will not get that lower stomach stuffed feeling anymore. Instead u will have to learn to listen to when u are no longer hungry. And that can be tough for those of us

who have never done that! U will learn what full feels like. As for first fills, most docs are

4-6 weeks after surgery. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Malolfamy. I'm about 4 weeks out and my stomach tells me I'm ready for my first fill. I kind of "pushed the envelope" tonight to see if I had adverse results, ate a little more than normal and had about 1/4 piece of toasted bread, and had no difficulty and probably could have eaten more.

I'll call my doc tomorrow! Don't want to go through Thanksgiving without some restriction. That's why I had the surgery!

Hi

I agree with you on restrictions prior to thanksgiving, had my surgery on Oct 15th having my 1st fill on Mon Nov 23. I can attest to being hurgry however after I get a small amount I am full.

Hi yall.. I am so glad I found this site... I am just at the beginning stages of my journey. I have always had a problem with my weight. My biggest was when I was about 24 and it right after I got married. it was 350. I am about 250 now, but I am always on a roller coaster. I have type 2 diabetes and PCOS. So my general practitioner suggested I look into it. and I know my insurance covers it. But I am not sure if they will approve it. So I have my consult on the 30th. So we will see how it goes.:thumbup::unsure:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
