Hi! When is your surgery again? I mean if this was a very temporary thing I think it would be ok...but if you're planning on doing this for an extended period of time I wouldn't recommend it. Especially if you'll be doing your normal day to day activities...working, taking care of kids, cleaning, etc. It doesn't sound like enough calories for much activity. I have heard of a lot of people on here doing atkins/low carb diets to lose some weight prior to surgery, you might think about doing something like that. Or Weight Watchers is another good one if you have enough time. Good luck!

What kind of preop is your surgeon requiring? Although I think it is a wonderful idea, you may want to not start anything until your preop diet is supposed to start. You are going to be on liquids for a while post op and it is important that you stay on it then. I would hate for you to be so sick of not eating by then, that you get tempted to cheat. Think about it. :w00t:

I agree with the above. Crzytchr is right believe me you will be sick of the liquids and the post op diet for awhile. Six ounces of food probably isn't enough at this point. It will just put your body into starvation mode and make it harder for you to lose pre op weight. You could do the slim fast in the morning and then eat a small lunch and small dinner. No breading or carbs just meat and veggies.

My two week pre-op diet was kind of similar to what you're planning. I was allowed two high Protein low carb shakes per day, one small fruit, veggies (not corn, potatoes, beans), two slices of LF high Fiber bread, and 4 ounces of low fat meat (turkey, chicken, roast beef, for instance). Plus plenty of zero calorie fluids all day long. The first couple of days were the hardest, mostly because of the carb restriction. I'm not sure I would have stuck to it so religiously had it not been mandatory by my doctor, but it is doable. If you have medical issues though, you should check with your doctor to make sure it's okay for you to go on a strict diet prior to banding. You don't want to end up doing more harm than good.

My surgery is at the end of December, and I too am trying to lose as much as possible beforehand (I look at it as less to lose on the "other side"). I'm having a Protein Shake (160 cal, 27g Protein, 5g fiber and 0.5 net carbs) in the morning, since this is what I will have to do post-band. As far as the rest of the day, I'm essentially following a Weight Watchers diet-lots of veggies, fruits and lean meats, some carbs, but all complex (whole grains, etc.) I think that if you restrict yourself too much, either A) you're going to feel horribly deprived and will find yourself at the bottom of a Doritos bag wondering how that happened and end up feeling like a failure for not being able to stick to such a strict diet, or :w00t: you're going to end up with no energy, feeling sluggish and sick. MODERATION is key. You don't want to feel starving all day--I don't know anyone that got fat off of raw veggies. If you want a snack, and are trying to keep low cal, keep a big bin of cut up peppers, radishes, carrots, etc. to munch on. But I really wouldn't go below 1200-1500 calories a day at this point. Just my opinion, for what it's worth. Good luck to you! Just have faith that you are strong and take it one day at a time.

Personally, I don't think the juice would be a good snack. I'd have a piece of fruit instead. For the same amount of calories you could have something that would satisfy your hunger unlike juice. For my pre-op, I had to do a two week diet consisting of a Protein Drink for Breakfast (with or without fruit added), another for lunch, and then a lean cuisine or smart ones frozen dinner. I'd normally not put fruit in my Protein Drinks and have it as a mid morning snack and again as an afternoon snack. Sometimes for dinner I'd have grilled chicken with steamed veggies instead of the frozen dinner. It really wasn't bad and I went from 301 down to 281 pre-op with this diet and doing exercise too. Good luck with whatever plan you choose!

I don't think juice will be that good because it is higher in calories but doesn't really fill you up. Something with Protein and some substance would be healthier and more filling such as a string cheese stick or a boiled egg.

If it were me, I would go low carb for a while for meals (but choose lean, healthy meats). You can also eat plenty of non-starchy vegetables so that you are not hungry. You can lose fairly fast this way and still feel satisfied before you are on liquids for an extended period.

Good luck.

I wouldn't drink the juice...it's just empty calories. How about drinking a shake for breakfast, and for lunch and dinner having 4 oz of a lean Protein (chicken breast, tuna fish, salmon) paired with lots of veggies. Just be careful not to add too much fat to the meat and veggies. Good luck!!

I lost 20lb before I started my mandatory liquid diet. Personally I would not do slimfast.... Protein Drinks are a better choice. I think slimfast has less nutrition and more sugar, I think that is the reason the dr said Not to purchase them. I would forgo the juice as well and do herbal teas and Water.< /p>

for your dinner I would eat the protien and veggies first then eat a little of what ever else is there .

JMO actually my experience

Good Luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
