Getting Banded on 11/24 and the pre-op diet is hard work

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm getting banded on 11/24, yes, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. It's funny the kinds of reactions I get from people who hear the date. They're like "you're ruining your thanksgiving!" And I say, no I'm not. I'm starting over.

I have about 130 pounds to lose to be to my ideal weight.

8 more days :w00t:

Hey there, I am getting banded on Thursday, Nov 19th. I get the same reaction from people, that I am ruining my holidays but they have no idea at how releived I am that I am going to be banded through that part of the year.

As for the pre-op diet. I am struggling. I am only a BMI of 37 so my Dr. said that my liver is probably not too fatty but I feel like I am in mourning over the foods that are about to "die" in my life.

I have been eating everything in sight but I know that after the surgery I will really make the changes and that will be all she wrote...

My pre-op diet consists of 2 -3 high Protein Meal Replacement shakes, 6 oz of V8, a WW meal (or similar), and a small piece of fruit or yogurt/nuts, etc for snack. It's horrible!

but on a good note, I have lost 8 pounds already :w00t:

Well, I'm four days post-op and so far so good. Have had a lot of gas issues, but they are working their way through.

Dr. Rorscheib in Champagne IL found a hiatel hernia that was rather large that he repaired while he was in there.

Thanksgiving wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Mentally, everything looked wonderful, but appetite-wise, I saw the amounts of food going on plates and wanted to get sick.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
