Hi Deb, I was banded on 11/5, and I had a rough first few days too. I didn't really feel my self till probably day 4 or 5, I got out for a few hours on day 4 and got really really tierd. I'm not 11 days post op and I'm still sore, but I feel good. You'll be fine, good luck!!!!

Hey congrats!! You've made it this far, and yes, it has been rough. The most important thing is that you allow yourself to feel rotten for a few days. Even a couple of weeks. Don't rush anything. Your body has been through a lot. But you will feel like yourself again. We've all been there.

Good luck and take care!! I'm sure we'll see you around the boards!

It took me a good week-and-a-half to two weeks before I felt kind of "normal" again.

Thanks so much for posting! I'm on 4th day post-op...and I'm feeling bad for feeling "not myself". I think I should be up and ready to take on the world and I am no where near that. I'm still sore, and apparently still re-covering. I do need to be good to myself and stick to the rules of liquid only. I have had a very teeny, tiny piece of chicken and let it liquify in my mouth only because the hunger pains are horrific! I'll stick it out and hopefully after 2 weeks, I'll be fine and after I step on the scale for the first time I'll see a difference. Fingers crossed!

I am 4 days post-op and it has been much worse than I anticipated. I really expected to be up and around by the 3rd day. I did feel somewhat human yesterday but got tired very easily. I was able to sleep without pain meds lastnight and today I woke up feeling 80% human! I immediately looked around my house and went to work....dishes, laundry and picking up! GUESS WHAT! I feel like crap!

I am back on the couch and I bet I won't do it tonight or tomorrow. I go back to work on Wednesday and I hope to be at least 95% human. My sites are healing wonderfully and I am starving but controlling with Protein Drinks. I feel the worst is over. Of course I had to learn the hard way

Hi Stacy,

I hear you girl! Take it easy and rest! That's what I've decided to do. I'm counting down the days to my first helping of "baby food"! Come on 2 weeks! Hang in there! I'm here with you!

Everybody's different. I wish you could bounce as I did ... surgery on Tuesday and back to work on Friday. But it's unfair to compare yourself to anybody else. Rest when you feel you need it. Walk small distances a couple of times a day (the weather here in Atlanta is glorious and any excuse to get out and enjoy beautiful fall weather is a good excuse!). Stick to your doctor's orders on food/liquids ... don't push yourself.

I'm a firm believer that hot Water cures a lot of ills, LOL. So if you haven't yet, take a hot shower with lots of rich lather. Take your time and enjoy it. If you feel up to it, go get a manicure/pedicure, or get a hair cut if you need it.

The main thing is to know that each day you will feel more "normal".

I am so glad to read everbodies replies. I am 1 week post op and came home from work early today feeling like a big weenie because I was not up to par and I fully anticipated being back to myself by today, I even asked my nurse before surgery if I really had to take a whole week off at work because I have a desk job, I am SO glad she told me yes because there is not way I would have been able to go back last week. Besides having a desk job is hard for me because sitting is the most uncomfortalbe position for me due to my pain in the port area. I feel much better knowing that I am not the only one still not feeling 100% and that it can take a couple of weeks to get there. I have had 3 c-sections and thought this would be a breeze, WRONG!!!

Has anyone had problems with light headedness and sweating? I am not sure if it is do to the drastic change in caloric intake since I am on a liquid diet for a month or something else going on..... How long does the port pain last?

You should be feeling pretty normal around 7-10 days post op.

I'm 8 days post op and I was feeling much better this morning. I went to work today and now I am soooo exhausted and sore at the port site. Nice to read that it's all a part of recovery.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
