Looking for motivation!

Recommended Posts

Well it has been a while since I was on here. Banded July of 08. Lately though I have begun to gain weight again and need to remotivate myself so thought I would drop in for a visit and get back on track. Always found good motivation here on this forum, TIA!

i gained a bit too (banded 6/04/08) lost 77 lbs and gained almost 15 by the year and a half (well almost a year and a half) i totally need motivation. i 'do' love my band, however i had to get 'unfills' because when i get aggravated my band becomes very very tight.

Good luck with everything!

Bigrick sorry to hear your not feeling it, you've been one of the more informative and positive people on the board. Remember why you did this in the begining and how far you've gone since then. I see you haven't updated your weight tracker for awhile maybe starting there would help get your stats caught up look at how well you've done. I know we did this to end the "diet rollercoaster" but find a program that may get you started back on track I had a lot of success with the 50 Million Pound Challange The 50 Million Pound Challenge while trying to lose my pre op weight. Good luck!!

The luxury of being 'merely obese' has grown almost too comfortable....

Wow, that statement really hit me. I so feel that way. I was at 327 and had dropped 62 really quick, some on preop diet and most post op. I found that after 3 months I had no restriction and basically got compacent and started to fall into old habits. I had to wait too long to get my first fill as the surgeon was heavily booked. So the time between scheduling the fill and getting it just this Tuesday, I put on 7 lbs.

Why did I do this? I looked and felt so much better at 265 that I lost my motivation. Well I lost back the 7 in the last 3 days since the fill and I feel like I am back on track.

I really need this band. The future is still unclear, but I need to let this tool work for me.

Jack - I really enjoy your posts!

I agree that sometimes it really difficult to stay motivated especially if you have had success early in the band process.

Now that I am officially in the overweight category I have to look back at how far I have come and really focus on the non scale victory.

No longer diabetic

No longer have sleep apnea

No more back pain

No more knee pain

No longer lose weight only to gain the weight back plus an additional ten pounds. (the old way was to lose 50 lbs but gain back 60)

going from a size 56 pants to 36 pants.

from 3X shirts to medium.

As a result of the above and many more changes I need to keep reminding my self that the journey is worth it.

Thank you for the replys, it means a lot coming from those who are going through and experiencing exactly what I am. At this point I have decided to schedule another fill. It has been close to a year since my last one and I can definitely get more food in now then I could then with an occasional PB from eating to fast. I think a fill would slow me way down again and help shrink my portions to allow weight loss to begin again. I know this is all up to me and that the LB is just a tool to aid in me attaining my goals. So I guess it is time to S*** or get off the pot so to speak. Thanks again people and sorry it took so long for me to answer, it just has been a very busy time for me-

BR

Hey Rick. Been a while since I took a peak into here, which I do now and then and was nice to see a name from way back. I have stalled. Haven't gained back anything, I fluctuate a few pounds here and there but have really stablized. That's not good, because i am not at my orginal goal. The term "comfortable" really hits home, but it should not be good enough. I had to scale back the gym a bit and that bothers me - I'm hoping to go back to my old pace of 5+ days per week in another few weeks. I probably need to readjust my band as well. I am probably a bit too tight as I often get heartburn these days (keeps the food intake down but I know probably not the most healthy). Plus if I loosen up and then tighten again, I'll get the same benefit, which worked for me in year 1. Anyway, you are not alone. We all go through this. Hang in there and keep at it, you have still come a long way !

MM and Jack, good to see both you guys still here and working things even if there is a little back sliding into the old habits. That is exactly why I went this route to get my eating under control, it takes more than just will power but that physical reminder to stop eating so damn much! All those years as a macho weight lifter and intense physical activity left me with nothing less than a voracious appetite. I still get urges to eat that way now but the Band prevents me which I will be ever grateful for. I gained a little back, maybe 10# but have held there for a while and have cut most of my meds out or in half, a great thing. But I still want to get rid of them ALL so it is time to get back on track, for all of us!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
