Hello, My name is Cheryl. I had my surgery October 10th. I am doing fine except for the fact I am starving. I am having a really hard time with the fact I cannot eat what I want anymore. I keep my goal ahead of me but I find I am almost grieving the loss of my old eating habbits.

Thank God for this website as it has helped me so much over the last week.

Hi Cheryl! It will get easier once you have your first fill. Grieving is the perfect word for what you're going through. I feel the exact same way. I still sometimes find myself staring morosely at the food left over on my plate, but it's happening less often. food is medication and you're in withdrawal. :(

It's kind of like dumping a boyfriend who is really bad for you. You know you're better off in the long run, but the sex was so great! Hmm... that's a great metaphor if I do say so myself... :)

I assume you're still on liquids or mushies? Try to find the more filling Protein shakes to keep you full longer. I found that the low carb slim fast shakes held me for 2-3 hours. Hang in there - you'll be trying your first solids soon! :D:D:D

Cheryl.....I know exactly what you're going through. I did the same thing. I pitched myself such a pity party right after my surgery but luckily it didn't last long. I went through the "what the heck did I do" phase then. I was so worried about never being able to eat this food or that food but I've found something out....I still eat just about what I want, within reason, but I only eat a very small amount now and it works. When asked if I'd do it all over again I now can answer yes, without a doubt I'd do it everyday if I had to to keep my band. Things will start looking up for you. Good luck and hang in there girl!

Hi Becky,

you've really had a great weight loss, way above average. What's your secret?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
