A mushy Thanksgiving....need ideas pls

Recommended Posts

So I'm thinking that I will be on mushies for Thanksgiving. I will be eating with a whole bunch of people that do not know, and I do not plan on telling about my band. So I'm thinking my choices will be:

-Mashed Potatoes

-Stuffing

-Green Bean Casserole (blech)

-Cranberry Sauce

-Smooshed Sweet Potatoes

and that's about it. None of these are really healthy choices. Anyone have any ideas of a mushy semi-healthy dish that I could bring that wouldn't be out of place at Thanksgiving?

Thanks!

I posted this same question a few hours ago. I basically got Mashed potatoes with gravy, watery stuffing. Most of the food is mushy enough!

When I was in the mushy stage I made some rutabaga (looks like a turnip but purple/yellow. I cooked it until it was soft, added some butter and salt/pepper and mashed. It is a taste that you either love or hate.. atleast in my family! I happen to love it.

Also, Jello salads are a good one... something with cottage cheese/fruit/jello would be good.

If I were you I would be the "help" before/during/after the meal that way you won't be stuck at the table feeling like you should be eating and you can't.

You will do great!!!!:wink2:

You could bring a stuffing, and load it up with Protein - pureed chicken or pork, eggs, some unflavored Protein Powder or chicken broth protein powder, fruits & veggies.

I am not sure if green bean casserole qualifies as mushie....not sure about stuffing either, although if you mush it with enought gravy!! Also, pumpkin pie--no crust. Good luck!!!

Mashed Turnips! I love them so much I have them regularly (I'm in the mushy phase too.) My Uncle requested creamed spinach at Thanksgiving which I was happy about because it's one more mushy thing there, but I'm making my own cream sauce with 1% milk.

This may not sound very good, but it taste wonderful.

Here is a southbeach diet dessert that would be mushie.

one tub of SF/FF coolwhip, one sm. pack of orange SF Jello and a 16oz container of lowfat small curd cottage cheese. Just mix it all together and yummers.

After mushie stage you can add some manderian oranges to add a texture.

Hope this helps.

I think broccoli, rice, and cheese casserole would be easy if you use enough velveeta!

4x4,

My family has made that concoction for years on the holidays, we add crushed pineapple to it too.. tastes great! I sometimes make it to take for lunch too.

Oh, my mom used to substitute 1/2 cup non-fat dry milk for half of the cool whip. Makes it more substantial and adds more Protein also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
