Had surgery 11/13, is it always going to be 2oz per meal?

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery November 13th, I'm obviously in stage 1 liquid diet. It says that I'm supposed to have 2oz per meal 3 times a day. I'm just curious is it always going to be 2oz per meal each week throughout?

:wink2::confused::tongue2:

NO WAY, U SHOULD BE ABLE TO EAT MORE THEN THAT. AT LEAST 4 OZ. IM HAVING THE OPPOSITE PROBLEM, I FEEL NO RESTRICTION WHAT SO EVER. LIKE I WASNT EVEN OPERATED ON. I HAVE LOST ONLY 4 LBS SINCE I WAS BANDED ON 11/06 AND HAVE BEEN BEYOND DEPRESSED. I THOUGHT I WOULD LOSE THE FIRST 10 LBS IN A WEEK BECUZ OF THE liquid diet AND BARELY ANYYYYYYYYYY CALORIES. OH WELL:confused:

BUT YES, FOR SURE U WILL BE EATING MORE AND SOON.

I'm so confused. I have the booklet my surgeon gave me to follow but it says only 2oz per meal. Is there some kind of post out there I can follow as far as what to do each week post op?

The idea is to be relly gentle and nice to your stomach until all the trauma caused by the op has healed. So I think the best policy is to have little and often. Thin liquids will pass straight through...this is good.:tongue2:

Anything that has a thicker consistancy will take longer to pass through and 'back up' in the small pouch. This will obviously put pressure on the newly positioned band and the stitches that hold it in place....this would not be a good thing. :wink2:

Hope this is helpful.

My first week was 2 oz a meal of the Protein Shake. Honestly though that was tough as I just wasn't hungry for the first 4 days or so. Once I got of liquids I still couldn't eat more than a small cup of food until week before my first fill. Then it loosened up and I could eat more. Still nowhere close to what I could before surgery but at least a cup & half - 2 cups per meal. Then the first fill and back down to a half a cup a meal.

I was banded Nov. 5 and I am not losing any weight. Is this normal? I feel like I am losing inches but the scales are not moving. It is kind of depressing. Also, I am tolerating foods great as if no restriction at all. I am so afraid of messing up or failing. I have been eating more "solid" foods than I should but I am chewing really well and they are going down fine. I have had no pain at all. I just want to succeed for once in my life on this weight loss journey!!

Try to stick with the diet you were given post-op, especially at such an early stage - you want to heal, not cause problems with the band. It can be hard, but hang in there - soon you will be able to eat almost normally, but less than others.

I was banded 11/6 and I seriously think I would starve if I was only allowed 2oz. I never got the full feeling....or maybe I never recognized it at first. I'm starting to sense the feeling of fullness but it's difficult. I was sooooo hungry at first....being able to eat mushies has helped soooooo much.

I was just advised to eat until I get the feeling of fullness. Honestly, I can eat/drink about 1.5 to 2 cups of food and liquid in one sitting. I cannot wait to get a fill. The good news is I lost 10lbs in the first 5 days but nothing since then.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
