a quetion from a soon to be banster

Recommended Posts

hi - i have been reading all of the posts on the "post- bandster" site and have really gotten alot of great tips on life after banding ..but i have a question that doesn't seem to come up ... Do you ever get past the "i want to eat because i am bored " stage -- or am i just feeling this way because i am only on protien shakes right now ?

Being around food does not bother me - actually i have done alot of cooking the last several days , as it keeps me busy -- i have no desire to have anything i have cooked because it wouldn't be worth it . I have also given myself alot of projects to do and have gone through at least 50% of them .. but i am chilling right now and am thinking ..well i could have some chicken broth ... and i am not even hungry .. help please :wink2:

i'm 16mo. out and I'm not over it so I try to stay busy and not let myself get to bored. sat. is the worst for me because it has always been my chill day so I've ordered the Wii fit plus today and am hoping that helps. sorry I couldn't be more encouraging just being honest. That is part of the mind set we have to work on our selves, the band helps us eat smaller portions but it's up to us what we put in our mouths.

Same for me. Some of my eating problem is emotional and boredom related. I still struggle with that. I do as you are doing now. I stay busy and volunteer alot. I also go to the lapband seminars my surgeon does and I talk to the crowd and bring my before pictures and tell my story. It really helps keep me movtivated and I feel like I am helping people. I volunteer for other things too. I am trying to stay busy and keep focused. It can be trying at times and as far as I can tell doesn't get better just different depending on how you cope with it.

I'm only a couple of months out and yes I still struggle with this, and probably will for the rest of my life. I too am a boredom/emotional eater. Now I can to an extent control the boredom by staying busy. Emotional eating is another thing all together! However, I can say this, I have worked really hard on my eating choices and try to keep limited amounts of "slidder" foods in the house, such as candy and chips. Little difficult since I have 3 kids that can eat, lol! However, when I want to eat but am not hungry, I try to reach for something healthy like a piece of fruit, or some Special K Protein crackers.

Now, what really helps me is when I eat and I am not hungry and I have made a good food choice, after a couple of bites it starts to feel like I am eating knives it hurts so bad to swallow. That means I am full and need to stop eating. Thats usually enough to kill the desire to eat, for that time anyways. I know, its not the smartest thing in the world, but it has helped alot.

I dont offer this as your magical cure for eating, rather I am saying what happens to me if I eat when I am not hungry and am not eating slidder foods.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
