hair loss and old age lines!

Recommended Posts

Ditto what CW said. For some, the hair loss just happens. Be patient, don't panic, it will all come to an end. I notice also that my hair came back looking better. I do think that the mega-dose of Bioton I have taken since b/4 LB surgery has done wonders for my nails and hair. Never hurts to try it.

I am 54 and have been at goal for a year. I remember looking in the mirror and almost jumping back....I felt that my face looked distorted. Well, happy to tell you I grew back into most of it. I used a good moisturizer daily on face and neck. The chicken neck is almost all gone and the face has really tightened up. Give it some time.

Also, we have to realize we have been heavy for quite some time and we are not going to have the same face after weight loss.

Good luck!

totally agree...healthy, shining and happy.

How much did you take? Thanks!

PS>>You look great!

I'm sorry...I missed this. I take 5000 once a day of the Biotin. I continue to take it and probably always will. I used to have soft nails and brittle hair. It's really helped.

Thanks for the compliment. I feel 30 yrs younger!

Yea I too am losing my hair at alarming rates. I have a ton of hair and could stand to have my hair thinned out however this is nuts the amount I lose daily...I do mean daily by the hands full and again I am also in my 4th month post op...I keep telling my self this too shall pass...

Like some others have said, I think it is the trauma from the surgery and the anesthesia. I'm going to start taking the Biotin and look for a Protein Shampoo just in case. The thing is...does anyone know if this is temporary, and about how long will it last?

I'm so happy to be losing weight, but the truth is that I'm not at all pleased with the way I look right now.

I agree with you denouement...I am not happy with the way I look either... I am running out of creative combing options as the balding spot is getting worse and worse right on the top of my head near my bangs... But I will be patient as everyone keep saying... I just hope it really is the surgery that is causing this and not something else. I don't even know how I would find out... I keep thinking it hormones.

We will see!

Danbar, I went to Sally's yesterday and bought the generic brand Shampoo and conditioner of Nioxin. The store clerk said that some have told her that it does work...like you said, we'll see.

I also bought some Biotin...we'll see.

The conditioner is a leave in type that you massage into your scalp. I have to tell you, I think I know what it feels like to be a middle-aged balding man with a receding hairline.

I have a gynocologist appointment in January and I'm going to ask her about all this...(my weight loss surgeon is negligent and I refuse to go see her...still have plastic like stitches pointing out of my belly...but that's another thing altogether..........

I'll keep you all posted and you let us know too!

I am two years 2 months post-op and had some issues with hair loss early on (about 6 months) My best friend is a hairdresser and suggest Nioxin also. It did make a difference and I like it so much that I still use it on a regular basis. Also, Biotin seemed to help and don't forget to get enough protein!

denouement I see also that you aren't happy with your surgeon either. I actually neglected to get any follow-up care for nearly a whole year because of personality conflicts with mine. Please do your very best to find another doctor of follow-up with, you deserve it. Unfortunately for me nobody in my area wanted to be bothered with this particular drs' patients (kinda like we were his problem and they didn't want to deal with him either) I didn't have a choice in the matter and had to go back to his office. I stood up for myself and made it be known that I would not tolerate being treated poorly and so far there haven't been anymore problems.

Good luck, I wish you the best!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
