Hi... Has anyone gotten approval from Aetna without having other comorbidities (ex. diabeties, sleep apnea, etc.)? I currently have a BMI of 42 and I'm young (22 years old) so I'm in good health otherwise. I have foot pain and lower back pain, but I don't think those weight-bearing issues count. Just trying to think ahead to prevent any denial by Aetna as being "not medically necessary". Any thoughts/comments?

I have Aetna as well and am in the beginning stages of this and am pretty healthy too. I would think that due to back/feet pain etc it would be seen as a need. I too would like to know if anyone has had this situation. I worry that I will do everything Im told for the 3 month preparation and then be denied.

That will seriously crush me if it happens.

My BMI was 41 when I began the process. I completed the 3 month program and was approved. I have no co-morbidities. I was concerned about the exercise requirement but I was worried for nothing.

What exercise requirement?

I am halfway through my 3 months.

Shell and Thunder, are you sure you don't have sleep apnea? That will get you approved.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
