Famous Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Who are famous people who have been banded?

The only one I know is Khalilah ALi (Muhammed Ali's daughter).

People say Oprah but I remember watching a segment of hers where she was doing sit ups in a workout bra and her belly was exposed. No scars to see (and believe me, I was searching!) Plus something tells me that she would tell.

Star jones....definetely gastric bypass. SHe lost so much sooooo fast.

Here's another name -- Nancy Wilson from Heart. She tells her story on spotlighthealth.com, the same sight where Carne Wilson has her story on gastric bypass.

Yep, I reckon Anna Nicole Smith and I think Kirstey Alley too. You just dont get that fat, and be that out of control and suddenly switch it off like turning off a light and lost a tonne of weight so quickly. You just dont.

Why in the hell wouldnt you if you were in their position? Plenty of money, it works, its safe, why would you muck around?

My husband's office manager had been overweight for years. More so than either of those two, and she has lost over 100 lbs in a little over a year just from following weight watchers. Before that, she believed and often said she could not change and was basically doomed to be fat. She's got another 75 + lbs to go but she's doing it alone! Whenever we get together, she refuses the food....I'm not one of those types that can do that for that long!!!

If she ever starts losing the battle after that much hard work, I'm going to tell her what I've done (the band).

Sharon Osbourne has said "I had a band put on my stomach," but she has also called it something different every time she mentions it (even "gastric bypass"), so it's very confusing. I've certainly NEVER heard her refer to it as a "lap band" or the fact that it's "adjustable." Someone posted on another message board that Sharon got a lap-band during the FDA trials w/a surgeon named Phillips at Cedars-Sinai. I get the impression she's been deliberately evasive about it. It could be that she doesn't want to endorse it, particularly since she seems to be struggling w/bulemia as well.

Well, hmmm...actually I just found a USA Today article that openly states that Sharon's colon cancer surgeon (Edward Phillips) was also her lap-band surgeon!

BTW it's Ann Wilson of the band Heart who got the lap-band and was featured on Spotlighthealth. She lost about 60 lbs and seems to have gained most of it back now. I believe she struggled w/reflux, because she refers to getting an unfill at some point in her Spotlighthealth jourmal.

And of course Kirstie Alley and Anna Nicole and other celebs would never admit to being banded - they would lose all thier endorsement deal money!!!

There first was a band that was not adjustable or reversible, as a matter of fact, my distant distant cousin had it done. I think there were some adjustments surgically to the tummy as well. It two was lapro done, but more invasive.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
