York Area Physicians

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

I am moving in less than 2 weeks (job change) to York, PA. I had surgery on 8/20 and have done quite well.

I adore my current physician but 8 hours is a long way to go for a fill.

Any suggestions for the Harrisburg/York/Lancaster area?

Thanks. Any opinion on one over the other?

I see the entire process is different. I had to attend a 2 hour seminar, meet with a psychologist, a nutritionist, take a mental health assessment, and meet the doctor.

There were no classes. There is a support group but I don't go. Find that because I am doing great, those that are struggling don't appreciate those of us who are doing well.

I see my doc on Wednesday for the last time. I'm not sure he will be very happy with the news.

I have an appt to see Dr Garber on Tuesday this week to evaluate my need for an unfill. This was arranged by my new family doctor so I am hoping he will work with me... I will post after I see him. I had my surgery in 4-09 in California, had several adjustments and felt good till about 2-3 months ago....hoping for the best!

Hi Anni,

I haven't updated for a while. I see Dr. Monk (same practice). I've lost 75 pounds since surgery in August 2009. Actually lost those 75 by May of this year. Then I started having issues with being too tight -- coughing at night when I laid down, losing 2 or 3 pounds a week because I couldn't even keep Water down. Dr. Monk took out 3 ccs and has only put 1/2 back so far. I think I need a little more because I haven't lost any thing since the partial unfill. I'm well past the dr's goal - 45 pounds in 3 years. I wanted to get to lose 88 pounds, but I'm thinking I am just fine at 75.

I'm healthy - went off all meds within 2 weeks of the surgery - and loving life.

Good luck.

Brenda

I live in York but i had my surgery in Mexico so it's hard to find a US surgeon who will see you...I have to go Fredrick, MD to get fills and care. Not a huge deal because I like my doctor. She was banded herself in Mexico and understands the process and struggles. If you're interested in her info, let me know. It's about an hour and 15 min away from York.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
