Waiting 3months for a fill???

Recommended Posts

I was banded on October 15th and went for my follow up appointment on November 5th . I was completely expecting to get my first fill, however, my doctor told me that I would have to wait until January before he would give me my first fill . How common is this? Everyday is such a struggle I'am trying my hardest to eat as little as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am about 3.5 weeks post op. I had surgery on Oct 21st. I go in this Monday, November 16th for my first fill. I am nervous because I think this is too early, it will only be a little over 4 weeks and I am wondering if that is too soon. However, I know I have been eating more lately, not bad stuff, but more so I guess I'm glad that it will be Monday. I am a little worried about how it will feel after the fill and if I can eat anything. I am worried about food getting stuck or coming back up. So far it hasn't happened which is nice.

Good Luck to you, your Doctor must have a reason.

Its pretty common. You body has to heal before they will fill you.

3 months seems excessive to me. I was upset at waiting 6 weeks. If you can't stop gaining, call the office and re-ask for an adjustment. I don't understand these docs that make us wait so long to use our tool....what good is it if it is not adjusted?

Best wishes,

Mimi

Generally, six weeks after surgery is the protocol for the first fill. I've read on LBT that some doctors put a fill in during surgery with the newer lap bands though. Three months does sound excessive. Did he tell you why he wants to wait longer with you?

This is from the Lab Band web site:

The first adjustment usually occurs about six weeks after surgery, although the exact time varies from patient to patient.

Healthyone! I so know your frustration. I had my surgery on 10/26. Went for my 2 weeks follow up and asked about the fill. I was hoping to hear 6 weeks from the day of the surgery..NOPE!!! 90 days. He is a great doctor and a lot of his patients have great result so i trust him, but i don't trust myself. I have some restriction now, and I am eating healthy and watching my portions (except for last night grrr) and practicing great self control. Which I know is important part of loosing weight, but I was hoping to get help a little earlier than 90 days! That means i would go through thanksgiving, christmas and new years all on my own. I am going to eat in the cornor so i am not tempted by all the food LOL!

good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
