Hey women, I was wondering if anyone had issues with your cycle right after getting banded. I'm sure the surgery does a number on our systems, but immediately after the surgery I started my period again just for the day. Then today, 1 week postop, I started again. I'm on birth control and I did take a couple of my pills late this week, but I've never experienced this. Do you think it could be from the surgery, anesthesia maybe?

I started a week almost 2 weeks early after my surgery. I think it was because I was losing weight so fast

I am on Depo Provera (the shot) and don't get a period with it. However, I did get a light one about 5 days post op. I have since had another one exactly on schedule! Have to talk to my gyno.

Yes, in fact I take the pill to control bleeding - 3 months on and 1 week off. I shouldn't have gotten my period for 2 months and just a few days after surgery, I started bleeding. I called the doctor's office to see if I should discontinue or continue taking the pill and they explained it was very common due to the trauma we put our bodies through and to continue taking the pill. Sure enough it wasn't like a "real" period and the bleeding ended after 4-5 days. I think things are back to normal

i am also on the depo needle - i haven't had a period for almost 6 years and i had spotting for just over a week after my operation. everything is back to normal now - im guessing its just a reaction to what our bodies went through with the surgery! good luck

Got my period two weeks into the pre-op diet despite being on the pill. Just like I wasn't taking any drugs at all. Every time I lose a good chunk of weight this happens. It's your body's way of telling you that you are not ingesting enough calories to sustain a pregnancy right now. Expect things to be screwy while you are losing weight fairly rapidly and it's probably a good idea to use a back up method of birth control.

I had to stop taking the pill (risk of clotting) one month prior to the surgery (which was last week). 2 days after my surgery I was bleeding so heavy (I'm talking nickle sized clots and everything) that I called my surgeon because I was so worried. He told me I could advance to the full liquids instead of clear because I may need more nutrients, if ya know what I mean. Mind you, my periods have NEVER been that heavy...this was comparable to post-partum childbirth bleeding!

Freaky stuff. It happens.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
