Hey everyone! I was banded last thursday and I've already lost 12 pounds, very happy. I feel great now, still a little sore in my tummy, like I did 1000 crunches, but other than that I'm good. I'm able to keep down all my liquids, yogurt, pudding, etc., but everytime I eat or drink anything I get a couple of hic-ups and burp a little, it's almost like a combination of a hic-up and a burp. Anyone else get this feeling?

I got banded on Monday and have been burping after every meal too. It feels so much better once I let them out. Are we eating too much or is this normal ?

I hope this is normal since so many of us are feeling it. :)

I was banded Tuesday and I get the hiccups. My doctor said it was normal because the hiccups come from the diaphram which is where all the extra gas is stored right now from during the surgery. He said it was good and it was a one way the body is releasing that extra gas.

I was banded in August and I still burp after everything I eat or drink. Doctor says that some people always do it and some don't. Nothing to worry about.

I just got banded on Tuesday 11-10-09 and I burp after eating or drinking. My surgeon said that it is most likely due to the excess gas that is trapped. I had some really bad shoulder pain for a couple days, but I'm doing ok now.

I was wondering what liquids you're taking and if they're keeping you full. I felt full the first couple days, but since then it seems like I'm starving quite often. The broths and Protein shakes aren't keeping my hunger pains down. I've had yogurt, pudding and Jello too. Any other suggestions anyone can offer. I still have a week and a half of liquids. Thanks!

Hi Snow, Congrats on your new band, this is such an exciting adventure isn't it. I felt the gas pains in my chest, shoulders and back for about 4 days, thank goodness that's gone. After about day 5 I was starving too, my stomach was growling and I was truly feeling hungry. I had tons of yogurt, pudding, applesauce, sugarfree popsicles, I got wonton Soup and didn't eat the wontons so I could atleast think I was eating a real meal. After my first full week I felt great so I asked if I could go ahead and move on to mushies. I didn't throw anything up and everything was staying down, so now I'm happy to be on mushies for a couple of weeks.

Thanks Galley!

I see my surgeon on Thursday, so maybe I'll ask if I can move on to mushy stuff. I have been able to keep everything down too and have not thrown up (which is a miracle!). I didn't know I could have applesauce so maybe I'll try some of that. Friday I took some bean Soup and pureed the Beans with the soup and had that....I was able to keep that down and since it had a little more content I felt fuller.

Good luck to everyone!

HI all ,

I got the band in august and like everyone else i burp all the time after meals. A matter a fact when that first burp comes i know i am done and full enough. The bad thing is the burps coming flying out before you can cover your mouth. But if that is the worst side effect of getting banded , i think i can live with that. My husband don't have anything on me now i can out burp any man.kinda gross but oh well.

I was told that those are the soft signs of being full. Some people burp, some sneeze, some hiccup. You have to be aware of them because if you eat or drink too much after you have them, you will bring stuff back up.

I tend to hiccup.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
