Liquids in and Liquids Coming Out - All the Time!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 11/3. My first bowel movement was on 11/9. Since then, I have been having bowel movements a couple time a day (even when I really don't want to - or - especially when I don't want to) and it is 95% liquid. Anyone else dealing with this? Do you take anything for it. I finally took an Imodium this morning. I go to the doc this morning for my post op check up and will ask what to do then. Just wondering if this is normal.

I'll be watching this thread since I was just banded on 11/11 and this has been my experience as well. And I guess it makes sense, if you are not eating anything solid, then you won't be passing any solids. Hopefully the immodium will at least help slow things down.

liquids in, liquids out. They pass right through. The bowel movement itself is probably stool left in the colon prior to surgery that didn't get all cleaned out with you pre-op laxative plus some of the liquids you have taken in. Be careful about taking Immodium. It cause Constipation also. Make sure you eat (when you can) lots of Fiber, like Fiber 1 Cereal.< /p>

I had a similar problem. As soon as I added things like pudding it went away. I'd talk to your Dr. and see what they recommend taking. Good luck.

Are you having any dairy yet? Many times we become lactose intolerant after surgery. I was lac-intolerant before surgery. If I use lactaid milk or the equivalent I'm ok. Just a thought.

Hi, I was banded on 10/23 and I have to agree, liquid in..liquid out. Once you move to mushy foods, you will go back to normal. It is frustrating, but hang in there..it will get better...:wink2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
