What happens if I get pregnant?

Recommended Posts

I wanted to hear from bandsters who have gotten pregnant. Will the band cause any problems? I can imagine one would have to have an unfill. Any info would be appreciated.

I am not pregnant, but this was a big concern for me before getting the band. My surgeon said he will unfill the band sometime during the pregnancy and during breast feeding. All depending on your nutritional habits, etc. Once you are ready to start getting the pregnancy weight off, you can start filling again. He assured me it will not be a problem.

That was the #1 concern for me as well. Helped that a person who works in my Dr's office has had the band 6 years and just had her second baby. They said bandsters have VERY healthy pregnancies because they gain weight as a normal controlled pace. They will loosen the band if need be and they can tighten it back up after baby to aid in weight loss. That's really what sold me on the band.

I researched this alot before be banded and asked many questions! (bc we dont have any kids yet and def plan to) basically, there answer to me was...absolutely no problem to get/be pregnant. Your band will just be adjusted to fit the nutrition needs of you and your baby. and it will be THAT much easier to get the baby weight off!

Hope that helps!:)

I believe my doctor recommended waiting a year before trying to conceive, but I have read stories of people conceiving much sooner with no problems. I wonder what the reason for waiting a yr is?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
