Extreme Extreme Port Pain

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone! Just wondering if this is normal.

I am just getting over bronchitis, and I have been coughing like crazy! So, as a result, I keep having extreme port pain. The thing is it's about two inches to the left of my port. My pain is absolutely horrible!!! It feels like someone stuck an ice pick in my stomach. I think that the scar tissue is being pulled. I don't know.

I called my doctor and the MA said to just put heat and cold packs on it. She said port pain was normal. But I've had port pain before, and this just seems a lot different.

What should I do?! Help!!!!

Good Morning!

I would follow what the MA has suggested, at least for 24 hours. It could be a mild muscle strain, due to all the coughing. And since the first thing most folks here would tell you to do is call your doc and you have done that, maybe just follow what they have said and give it 24 hours. If that doesn't help or the pain gets worse, then call to see if you can get in. I know when I am sick and I have to cough, I get a pain in my sides that feels like a muscle strain. It will hurt for a few days and then go away. Of course, that was pre-band, so I know we have uber-concerns when it comes to strong and unusual pains. If it isn't any better in a day, then go to the next step and get it checked out.

Good luck and keep us informed, please!

Elgrad

You are the best judge of something not feeling right. Call your surgeon and see about getting an appointment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
