Needing Breakfast ideas

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I was wondering what you do for a quick Breakfast on the go. I am working on my masters, and really do not have much time in the mornings before classes to eat a big breakfast.

What are some of your ideas?

I have been banded for 9 months, and the Protein Shakes have gotten old. I use to mix vanilla with some fruit, milk and ice.

Please help!!

I enjoy a prepacked non-fat Greek yogurt with fruit already mixed in. Add just a little granola and it's yummy!

Every morning I have a Pure Protein bar and pre-packaged Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal (either one or the other) when I am on the run. Aitkins and Myoplex Lite bars also work when I don't have time for a real sit down Breakfast.

I also cook up a pot of steel cut oatmeal and after cooked add raisins and Splenda. I put in individual freezer containers and freeze. Always ready and convenient to throw in the microwave.

I too need "on the go" breakfasts. I DO NOT eat yogurt. I have tried every brand, flavor and concoction out there and do not like it. So that is a problem. I am so jealous that you guys eat bread like things. I have not tried and am afraid that if it goes down ok, I will have a whole other issue to deal with. eggs don't pack well, not cleared for cereal. I was having 2 laughing cow (light) wedges on melba toast, but that does not have enough Protein or substance, though I like that a lot.

Any suggestions will be welcomed!

Thanks Hale for letting me tag on your post.

I just tried Jimmy Dean D-Lights and they are delicious. I too am in college and live in the dorms, so my breakfast on-the-go options are pretty limited. These you just pop in the microwave for a minute or two and they turn out delicious. Sometimes I eat half before class and then the other half after. They pack plenty of Protein and keep you full for a while. With 18 grams of protein, 29 carbs, and under 300 calories, they are pretty healthy. Not to mention they taste good.

How about making a breakfast borrito the night before and in the morning you can nuke it for a miniute and run out the door.

1 small south beach diet tortilla

scrambled agg whites / no fat cheddar

2 slices of turkey bacon

wrap it in surran and you are ready to go the next morning! Plan ahead!

I also like whole oatmeal...just soak it in no fat milk or yogurt overnight in a tupperwear, by morning its tender and yummy, eat it cold or hot...no "cooking" required!

Starbucks banana chocolate Vivano shake (270 cal.)

Chick-fil-a order of scrambled eggs (you can add a cup of fruit if you need it)

Microwave scrambled eggs (I love these)

Drinkable yogurt (my fav)

Cranberry orange breakfast barley. I make it one weekends and it keeps for about a week in fridge. Just microwave and eat.

Depending on how my band is behaving in the morning, I eat eggs. Takes just a few to fry them up and get them down. Kinda like slider food, but it sticks. If my band is being bad and wont let me get down fried eggs, I nuke them, the more rubbery texture slides easier. Toss on some mozzie or cheddar cheese and I'm good until past lunch time, almost to snack time

Jachut, I just found Greek yogurt and I love it!!! It's so mouse like and I have added my own flavoring to it and also use it in replace of sour cream.

Someone mentioned oatmeal.. And I just wanted to add that you can mix your Protein Powder in it.

I'm an Oatmeal person myself, Never liked it pre banding but I do now as I've gotten use to it also the kashi go lean hot cereal. If I have time I'll do egg beaters omlet w/lowfat cheese but that's more of a weekend thing and I can never eat more then half, Which really makes the dogs happy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
