Okay, so I'm dreaming of the day when I'll be off mushies...

Anyway, I go to soft next Wednesday (progress, I'll take it) and my friend and I are going to see New Moon on Friday night. Would it kill me to have some popcorn at the movies? I know they say corn can be an issue even when you're on solid food, but I wanted to know if anyone has tried it. I'm not looking to house a large popcorn or anything like that and hate butter, but just wanted to get the thoughts of you guys since this board knows all!!!

Thanks!

I hate to give you advice when I don't know what your nutritionist considers soft....why don't you give the office a call and that way you can make your decision with greater confidence. Enjoy the movie either way, I am eager to see it, also.

Definitely ask your doctor. I would avoid eating any of the hard part if you do indulge (no kernels). popcorn does dissolve pretty well in your mouth though. Again-- ask your doctor -- but I think it would work. Don't rely on me though! Better to follow your doctor's instructions! :tongue_smilie:

I would also ask the dr. I can't remember how long after I was banded that I started eating popcorn. If the dr. does say it's ok or you just decide to go for it, I would try to eat some at home first so that if it doesn't agree with you, you will be at home, not in the movie theater bathroom. It would really suck to miss the movie.

As the others have said, check with your doctor first, but I eat popcorn all the time lately. I just include it in my daily calorie allowance. I cook it in mazola oil and don't add butter. The salt I use is actually a salt substitute.

It has not affected my weight loss.

It's just trial and error, I have no problem with popcorn. Yet I can't eat eggs.< /p>

Just be mindful that it's "mindless" eating. You're not really paying attention to how much is put in your mouth due to watching the movie. :tongue_smilie:

I can't eat popcorn, if I do I PB. I ate popcorn at the movies and had to make sure I had an extra cup to throw up in. But I was by myself and no one noticed. If you're with a friend, I wouldn't advise it unless you know how your band will tolerate the popcorn ahead of time.

If you do decide to try it make sure you try it before you go!! You just can't miss any of New Moon!!

Unfortunately everyone's food adverse will be so different. I was able to eat popcorn in the beginning without a problem. I would say go at it really, really slow and try before the movie night just in case you get sick. Popcorn is my favorite snack. I buy the 98% fat free.

I went to the movie yesterday and ate popcorn for the first time. I ate about a small hand full and it took me the whole movie to eat it, but it was very satisfying. So I would say just take it slow.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
