How much have you lost??? and many more questions for the Vets!!!! :)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am 3 weeks post-op today! Yeah, I think I am doing very well. However, I cheat on the post-op diet, daily! I just can't seem to get it together. I do not overeat! I eat an appropriate amount! It's just the choices of food. I sometimes do not feel any restriction. When I eat a tiny bit more than 1/4 or 1/2 a cup....I feel more satisfied. I keep getting hungary!!!! Should I be hungary??? Considering I have fill in my band?

My surgeon put 4cc's into my 10cc band at the time of my surgery and I am not scheduled to recieve a fill for some time. I see him on Nov 23.

For those who remember, how much had you lost at 3 weeks post-op??? I spoke to the dietician who said it really varies. She has heard of people losing anywhere from 5lbs-25lbs!!!! I was in shock!!!! 25lbs!!!! I wish. Although, I do not want to lose too fast. I have a theory that slower will keep me from having so much excess skin and it will give my body time to adjust to it's new size.

So far, I have lost between 8 or 9lbs. It varies. I am a bit disappointed in that. I would like to lose 20lbs by Christmas. Is this realistic??? Help me............ Oh I failed to mention....I lost the 8-9lbs within the first 2 weeks. For the last week or so...I have not lost anything... It seems like I stopped losing as soon as I moved to the Stage III/Pureed Food Diet. Can I go back to the Stage II/Full liquid Diet....Will this help or hinder???

You should be focused now on healing and eating only what is on your recovery diet. If you focus on foods with high Protein you will stay satisfied for longer periods. Many people gain weight during the mushie/pureed stage so don't expect too much.

In the first month I lost 37 pounds. There are some months where I lose only 7-8 pounds and others where I lose more. I did begin walking a lot right out of recovery and each day would increase the time by more until I was walking about an hour and a half each day. Also, the bigger you are the faster you will lose at first.

The biggie for me is exercise. Get yourself into a routine of exercise that you can stick with and gradually increase in intensity and duration for lasting results. A mix of aerobic exercise, weights and strength training is ideal.

Log all your food each day so you know exactly how many calories you are eating. This will help you to be more aware of why you may not be losing if your portions are too big or maybe you are snacking too much.

Earlier on when I would read of people eating only 1/2 cup of food I would feel like Miss Piggy because I could easily eat way more. Until you reach really good restriction you will most likely want to eat more. This is where will power comes in. Just make sure you stick with the #1 rule of Protein first and be sure to not drink with your meals.

I wish you great success on your lapband journey.

Donna

Don't worry about too much right now -- when you get your next fill, you'll start losing much more quickly. I put together this post showing my progress through the last year. I felt like I lost slower than many other bandsters, but it will give you a good idea about rate of loss. I started at 230 lbs and am 5'6 tall.

Best wishes for your success!!

Donna~Thank you so very much for the candid reality check! I should not be focusing on the weight. I am still recovering and learning how to eat Protein first!

I am just beginning my walking program and plan to go to the gym within the next couple of weeks.

Catherine~Thanks for the blog. It gives me inspiration. We were about the same beginning weight. I should start a more detailed journal. I want to remember this journey and also share it with inquiring minds. I love Tahari clothes and shoes too! Fabulous!:tongue_smilie:

Anymore suggestions????

9 pounds 3 weeks out is good.. i was about the same at three weeks.. dont go back to full liquid. stick to the diet plan the dr gave you. i promise itll come off as long as you stick to it. your doing great. ive lost 100 pounds. and i feel amazing. as long as you stick with it you will gradually loose. and once you get anther fill you wont be feeling that hunger. good luck!

I am almost 3 weeks post op and now I am not losing any weight. I gained 2 lbs thru the week but am still down 20 since my surgery. I finally lost those 2 lbs again... I am barely eating maybe 300 calories a day. I am not hungry at all and actually forget to eat. I am just wondering when I will start losing again. I am afraid they wont give me a fill since I am not hungry and barely eating anything... Uggh has this happened to anyone else?

I go for a checkup tomorrow morning. Thanks

At 3 weeks, I was down 10 pounds. When I started solid foods, my weight loss stopped, then it started again. I was worried that I was loosing weight too slowly, When I went back for my last fill (three months post surgery), I had lost 24 pounds and my doctor was very happy, they said I had lost an average of 2 pounds per week and that's what they want. I left the appointment on a cloud! I'm still lossing about 2 pounds per week and I feel good about that.

Let your body heal and make good food choices, you will lose and feel good.

You are very welcome Monique. I guess I just like to get to the point without any fluff mixed up in it.........Funny, I come across so bland (without personality). In real life I'm not at all that way. I'm actually pretty nutty!

Hey congrats on your surgery! Pretty much what everyone else said - the next couple of weeks are for healing. Also, it is really pretty normal to gain or not lose once you start the pureed stage. Because you are, all of a sudden, taking in solid foods as well as way more calories then you were before. So don't worry.

I think I lost 18-20 pounds during my first 3 weeks post-op, but I also began with WAY more weight to lose than you.

Good luck with your bandster journey!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
