So I'm currently in the chat room and we were discussing if anyone drank soda/softdrink. One said that her doc allowed her to where as everyone else said that theres didn't.

My doc personally said no, unless it's flat which who really wants something like flat coke? I'd rather have Water. But in my mind if I drink soda it's like my stomach will start pulsating or something and I'll just keep vomitting, I know tha probably won't happen but still I keep thinking it will lol. Plus that and I don't want my pouch stretched.

So do you drink soda?

My doc told me the same thing. I just got banded Nov. 5 and not drinking Diet Mt. Dew has been really hard. I drink alot of Crystal Lite and sugar free Kool-Aid but it is not the same!

I don't have my band yet, but I still quit drinking soda(except when I'm sick) about a year ago.

What is the reason you can't drink soda?

It can stretch the pouch Paige, meaning you can end up eating more and the band won't work as well - It doesn't happen overnight but gradually.

Hardly ever, I dont really like it and never did.

but I dont really stop to think about it on the occasions I might have something like champagne or a gin and tonic, which again, is hardly ever anyway.

Nope...my doctor said NOT EVER AGAIN. So I gave it up and I don't think about it. I'm not doing anything that might mess up my band. It is too special to me.

My Doctor said that I can have soda just to make sure it is flat and diet. The diet part does not bother me to much, but the flat part, I don't like to well. I'd much rather have a flat diet coke rather than not having any at all.

I haven't had a soda since 4th of July weekend '08'. I loved having one a day...like a treat so it has been kinda challenging at times. Ya know how there are foods out there that just make you crave a sode lol!?! I tried once and it felt horrible so I haven't had any since. Not worth it in my opinion... to risk what I have. Have a great day everyone :tongue2:

I'll have half of a soda a day. B4 my surgery, I would have about 3 diet drinks a day. So I think I am doing pretty darn good with having only 1/2 of a soda a day. I am now addicted to chocolate milk. I mix fat free milk that has only 80 cals. per serving with s/f chocolate milk mix that is only 15 cals. per serving which is 2 teaspoons. I have 2 8 ounce glasses a day, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. Rest of the day, I usually drink hot tea sweetened with splenda (cimminion flavored), crystal light flavored packs with Water, 1/2 a diet drink, and regluar tea sweetened with splenda.

Sodas aren’t all that nutritious. I’d rather drink Water.

I have a tough enough time trying to make sure I’m getting enough H2O to worry about drinking a soda on top of it.

I was addicted to diet pepsi vanilla before surgery. My doc and nutritionist said "absolutely no carbonation." I am a rule follower so I gave up soda.

A few months after surgery, my mom said "try this drink" Well, it was carbonated and it hurt... I've never wanted any since then.

However, I love root beer floats! and guess what, there is no carbonation. About once a month, I get a tall glass of diet root beer, add 1/4 cup of vanilla ice cream and voila! Some ladies say to use SF ice cream. I have even used SF vanilla Creamer. But if I keep it at once a month, I just use regular ice cream. The ice cream kills the carbonation (don't drink the foam at the top)

It's actually a good science experiment too. All that foam rising at the top is what carbonation does to our pouches! I, for one, don't want that!!!

Gastric surgeons are usually anti carbonation in any way shape or form. Some new studies in Europe point to drinking soda as being linked to cases where the stomach tissue has broken down at the band site or something along those lines... enough for me to stay away.

I drink small amounts of pop all the time. I asked my surgeon about "stretching out the pouch" and he said it's a fallisie becuase the liqued goes right through. He did say the reason you should drink it flat is so the carbonation dosn't upset your stomach.

My surgeon say in moderation it's fine. I used to drink 6-8 diet Dr. Peppers a day. Gave it all up before surgery, now only have one once in a while (maybe one per week).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
